Figured I might as well share some ninja development stuff:

This was a project I had worked on for over 4 years to learn how to do Meta Quest development. Ended up taking a break because a stealth game was too difficult as my VR first game. But 2 games later, I'm up to the challenge, so things are going much better this time around, and am hoping to actually finish it this time.

What NEW game mechanics or features would you want to see in a new Tenchu game?

Are there any new features you think would be great in a new Tenchu type game? Here are 20 ideas and thoughts I could get feedback on if any stick out as being interesting.

  1. Water Stealth & Combat? (Breathe through bamboo reeds) / Drag enemies into the water.
  2. Castle Traps? False Floors, Pit Traps, Wall & Floor Spikes, Falling Gates
  3. Fear System? The better you do, the more enemies will wildly look around in fear, stumble, drop their weapons, back away or run to call others for help.
  4. Rewarded For Hiding Bodies?
  5. New weapon types? Kusarigama, Kunai, Bow, rope weapon to string up enemies?
  6. If caught, you have to escape from the castle dungeon with no tools?
  7. Rescue-able NPC characters that can help your home base?
  8. Branching paths unlock depending on what you do?
  9. Multiple ways to complete or fail a mission?
  10. Secret Bonus Missions?
  11. Skill Tree System? Learn samurai techniques or various ninja clan skills?
  12. Level up to run faster, quieter, longer jumps, chain more stealth kills?
  13. Physics based distractions, kills, etc? Set fire to items, shoot out a rope bridge, knock over rocks or crates onto enemies.
  14. Snow levels? Ninjas pop out of the snow, ground is slippery, wear a white ninja outfit.
  15. New enemy types? Sumo wrestlers, assassins, other female warrior types known in history.
  16. World items break, crumble, fail? Climbable rocks, boards, bridges, break and fall apart.
  17. Continue with the multiple layouts per mission for increased difficulty?
  18. Add more animals to the world to make it feel alive?
  19. Enemies react to dead bodies and never give up searching for you once discovered. Will call for reinforcement after some time if you don't dispatch them quickly.
  20. More vertical environments? Break into a castle from the outside high up in the cliffs, climb ropes, up temple pagoda's etc.

Anything else you guys can think of that would be awesome to include???

Tenchu has inspired me once again to work on this ninja game.

Figured I'd show some of the tutorial level's I have been working on. I have about 10 at the moment, but am currently reworking game mechanics to improve everything more. Once I'm done cleaning things up, I'll let people play what I have to get feedback. If you complete the basic challenge you reach the red lotus flower. Find the purple to complete each level's advanced challenge.

I mostly want to keep the brown colors and tones from the original games along with music and sound effects that almost seem similar in some ways such as the song that plays when you complete each tutorial mission. The most important thing to me is that is feels like a Tenchu game when you're playing it for the first time.

I apologize for how dark the video is as it doesn't seem quite the same in the headset.

Do you have a favorite items in Tenchu?

I always thought the armor and larger ninjato sword once you unlocked that was really cool. Other than that... I always loved the blowgun.

What is the best way to play the old Tenchu games?

I've been really wanting to play the originals. Does anyone know if there's a way to play a pc version of any of these games or do I have to hunt down the Playstation versions?

New game by the original Tenchu team: YAKOH: Shinobi Ops. Do people know about this?

I believe this is the same team that created the original Tenchu games (1-3) along with Shinobido which only was released in Japan. If you watch any gameplay you can tell it's the same team since they look exactly like Tenchu games. As for the new one called YAKOH, I'm both nervous but kinda happy to see them making another ninja game. Co-op of up to maybe 4 people? Not sure.

Fighting like a Ninja / Jedi Knight is a blast! Just don't get hit!

Shin Zero (Quest 3 only) - 30 missions against robots, assassins, gunships, gunfighters, tanks, sword enemies, snipers, drones, turrets, boss fights and more. Find hidden weapons and collectables, practice in the firing range or lounge in your apartment between missions.

Most people can't complete the demo. Is it too tough for you?

Working on a ninja VR game. Still pretty early on though so don't have much to show yet.

I'm currently calling it Ninjato. But I also am thinking about the name Zoketsu as well.

If people have any thoughts about ninja games or have ideas, thoughts or features they think should absolutely be in a game like this, feel free to share and let me know. I'm planning on it to be a physics based game like Blade & Sorcery, but faster paced with better movement abilities.
