How to pack?

Hi, I’m getting prepared to buy all the equipment necessary for Workaway.
I’d be starting right in the middle of winter and am going to try to find jobs that require outdoor work (animals, garden, building…)
I plan on traveling low budget so bus, train and small planes if necessary.

I was hoping I could just travel with a 40L backpack and extra day pack if necessary

Would you say this is inconvenient? Would I need to plan on taking more?

What do you guys use to travel for Workaway?

Thank you so much!

Hiking/Bike-packing solo trips

Hi, 26yo, I’m thinking of taking some time off this year to go trekking and bike packing around Europe for the first time
Obviously this does mean being alone in remote areas most of the time and sleeping in a tent.

I wanted to know if any of you would mind sharing similar experiences? Is it easy? Do you feel safe? Are there any tips to prepare for negative experiences? Did you enjoy it?
I always have this tiny fear of coming across the wrong people at the wrong time.

Thank you!!

Packing

Hi, as someone who has never done this before and would like to start soon, what kind of packing advice would you give?
Is it a good idea to buy full camping equipment, as if trekking would be part of the experience? A tent, camping tools for cooking, sleeping bag etc…

It probably depends on what kind of volunteering you end up doing but if you wanted to prepare for any kind of circumstance, is it a good idea to get this kind of equipment?
Thank you !!

When to start applying?

Hi, this question has probably been asked a million times, sorry.
I was thinking of starting Workaway this winter and I’ve heard different feedbacks on the time it takes before finding a host.
What freaked me out is that some people say we need to start looking 3-4 months before.
Is this true? I wasn’t expecting to have to start looking immediately.
What are your thoughts on this? How much time before do you start looking?

Thanks!!

Workaway during winter

Hi, I haven’t started Workaway yet but I’m planning on starting to move around end of August beginning of September and was hoping to do it for a few months in various locations.

Considering it will begin to get cold again, I just wanted to know if there were fewer jobs during those seasons?
And if any of you also had good experiences during these times?
If you so, what did you do?

BTW: I’d be traveling around Europe (and maybe the U.S)

Thanks!!
