Sidekick warranty

What's up boring everyone with a long story. I basically bought my buddy sidekick when he upgraded to a wave. I thought it'd be a nice lightweight tool around the shop but today when I went to cut a piece of wire with it (kind of the real reason I wanted it) I noticed it wouldn't cut through. Seems that the wire cutters don't make contact. So my two questions are is this typical? And can I claim a warranty even though I didn't buy the tool originally?

General question

I'm just curious if/ why anyone chooses the tools without the blades on the outside of the handle?

For me that was the single greatest upgrade Leatherman made to their tools. I got my first wave when I turned 18 (1999) my dad had an original super tool (or whatever it was called back then) and mine having the blades on the outside was what really set it apart for me.

So, please sound off in the comments. I'm curious what you're feelings are. Tia

Question about the arc pro

Looking at picking the arc pro for everyday use. Im a mechanic. I see it has an ipx7 rating... Meaning not tested for dust.. I'm curious how well it holds up to dust and grime?
