Am I far behind? Some advice from maybe more experienced singers?
I’ve been in singing lessons since May of 2024 and currently I’m 16 in a drama company. It’s been 2 years now where I’ve been singing with lessons and I STILL can’t seem to grasp the concept of breath support, as in singing with support and not singing from my throat.
It’s definitely improved, my singing is healthier than it used to be but I still deal with needing to clear my throat excessively after every time I sing and throat tension.
I feel like 2 years is way too long to not understand one of the most fundamental concepts with singing. I suppose I’m worried that because of how slow I’m progressing with it and my failure to understand it— especially when all my friends in my drama company seem to understand it easily— that I’m just not meant for singing.
Please can someone share some advice or tips, especially if you’re an experienced singer who now understands the concept after struggling with it first. Tell me what made it click for you, please. To be honest, I really want to understand it soon because it’s killing my passion for singing everyday and when I used to love it.
