518 Scorer Offering Cheap MCAT/UCLA Pre-Med Tutoring!

Hi everyone! I'm a senior at UCLA and recently scored a 518 on the MCAT. Since I took the exam just over a month ago, the content, AAMC logic, and test-taking strategies are still very fresh in my mind.

Feel free to DM me if you're interested or have any questions!

JW FL scores vs AAMC/real MCAT?

Testing in a week and aiming for a 510. I got a 504 on Jack Westin FL 6, with my breakdown being 126/125/126/127.

For anyone who’s taken JW FLs recently, how did your JW scores compare to your AAMC FLs or actual MCAT? Do you think a 504 JW could reasonably translate to ~510 on the real thing?

3.3 sGPA / 3.5 cGPA / 507 MCAT (503 --> 507) | Neuro Research | BU MAMS Accepted | To Retake or Move to Boston?

I’m looking for a strategy check. Just got my second MCAT score back and I’m torn on the next move.

The Stats:

  • GPA: 3.3 science / 3.523 overall at a public Ivy
  • MCAT: 507 (125/126/127/129). This was my second attempt (up from 503).
  • Research: Co-author on a Nature Medicine manuscript (metabolomics/neuro). 2 other pubs under peer-review. 3 posters/presentations. 4 years of neurobiology/psych research.
  • California Resident
  • Clinical: Currently a Clinical Coordinator for a neurosurgery practice. 300+ clinical hours (clinical consults, neuro exams, surgical observation).
  • Shadowing: 100 hours
  • Other: Private STEM tutoring founder, TA for chemistry and physics classes, 4 years as a volunteer for disabled students (CAE), volunteer at the hospital, volunteer for food bank, primary caregiver for grandmother. Bilingual (Spanish).

Current Status:

  1. Accepted: BU MAMS (Master of Arts in Medical Sciences) and Georgetown SMP.
  2. Pending: Temple ACMS, Drexel, NYMC SMP (looking for that conditional linkage).

The Dilemma:

I am strictly MD-only.

  • Option A: Submit AMCAS now using the "Throwaway Method," study for a 3rd retake in June/July, and add schools once the score drops in August.
  • Option B: Forego the retake, commit to BU MAMS, and apply during the "glide year" using the SMP grades to offset the GPA.

The Questions:

  1. Given the Nature paper and clinical leadership, is a 507 + 3.3 enough to land mid-tier MD interviews if I apply early?
  2. Is a 3rd retake (July) too late for this cycle given the GPA?
  3. For those who did BU MAMS, is it better to just take the "guaranteed" path and wait a year?
