Project Hail Mary (novel) from an Enders Game fan perspective

I’ve been a huge Enders Game fan for years now.

I’ve read the whole earth series, the four book trilogy, and Enders Shadow.

I’ve also seen the movie but that doesn’t count for much

For whatever reason, I only just now got ahold of Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. I originally wanted to read the book just to be able to understand the movie better and compare/contrast the adaptation and source material whenever I got around to watching the movie. It’s a hobby of mine.

I had read The Martian and saw the movie and enjoyed both but felt the story a little too grounded in modern technology for me.

Cut to Project Hail Mary. I absolutely loved it. I highly recommend any who enjoys the series to check it out. It’s a bit of a departure from Card’s writing, but as far as science fiction goes, it’s top tier.

It was the only book besides Enders Game to get a 5/5 from me. Speaker for the dead ranked at like a 4.5/5 for me.

TLDR: I highly recommend reading Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir if you seriously enjoy Enders Game.

Is the aryx discord server gone?

I was a huge fan of aryxs mods but seem to no longer be in the server.

Is the server still running? I was hardly even active in it besides just looking and downloading her mods.

I have had several years of event photography experience and photography assistant experience.

However, I got all of these jobs via word of mouth in my hometown and it’s just not been frequent enough as of late.

I was wondering if anyone knew any better ways I could search or better yet, apply for this position somewhere online? Thanks.

Mod suggestion: a RAM-45 mount for aircraft hard points

I feel like it could be a great early game air to air missile. With limited range and no seeker, it would need to be limited to aircraft with a radar (unless you wanted to give those aircraft without an on-board radar a nerfed RAM-45A)

I’m surprised this isn’t already a thing.

Spider ID in SE Florida

Hi! I saw a cool spider on my walk tonight

It was dark orange with light orange and brown markings across the body which seemed to be about 2” in length. Maybe the size of a good peach pit.

It was sitting in a web which had a face about 3-4 feet and supporting webs that likely exceeded 60 feet in length.

It sat in the center of its web and did not react to light

Location: West Coast of Florida. Suburban town.

For the past two nights, me and my girlfriend have been trying to stargaze in our neighborhood from hammocks suspended between two trees.

On two separate occasions, however, we have been attacked by some kind of ferocious beast of an insect. First, it was my girlfriend. And then it was me. In two separate locations on different days around the same time 10-11pm

Both times, it presented the same. The feeling of *something* crawling around our legs (the lower part of the hammock). For my girlfriend, who was bit, she exclaimed loudly at the time and insists that the sensation felt something like a bee sting or a spider bite. She lifted her leg up and when I turned on my flashlight I saw a truly gnarly looking bug.

I think it may have had more than 6 legs. My girlfriend insists it was 6. I remember it being brown and long and having some wicked mandibles. It was around 1.5-2 inches. My girlfriend also describes the mandibles as being striking. We both agree it was fuzzy looking in texture. We left the hammock and didn’t see it. We still went inside.

For me, I felt something crawling on my shorts and asked my girl to use her flashlight to look at it. I was laying down. I saw her reaction as she recoiled and I knew she saw the bug again. We left the hammock and did not see it again.

Anyone have any ideas? I wanted to take the bugs side the first time. Maybe he was scared because he was squished by mistake? But this is the second time we see the same dude and he’s on us.

Sorry for no pics
