New Offline tab in Android app? Thoughts?

I can see it possibly being useful "one stop shop" for managing routes and especially areas. But for Routes seems like it's just Saved Routes tab ordered differently.

On similar subject, I see you can "Download custom area" from Region sub-tab. When you press it you then select a bounded area and then toggle an 'Offline map' switch at top and/or click 'Download this area' button. I'm a bit daft - what does the toggle do?? It's the same interface when you click the new orange offline button in Routes tab.

On a totally unrelated subject, I see that premium Settings page is now via the obnoxious Home screen ? Bit weird, but ok.

Also the street view for Highlights is weird and breaks the page layout once you exit (plus the weird Google inset map shows nothing?)

Lastly, have the Devs tested dark mode across the app? The maps are a muddied mess and in some settings pages text and UI elements become invisible (see Garmin Connect page)

Well that turned into a random assortment of petty grievances didn't it?

UX lols on deaktop

I don't know what's going on with the design of the desktop app. The layout and use of screen space is frankly atrocious. The size and aspect ratio of various elements is just bizarre. Too many problems/weird design decisions to mention so just a few key examples here.... In my last picture (route planner) every information card just haphazardly overlays or partly overlays other key UI elements including the arrows or close buttons. It's a visual dogs breakfast....

Scale bar changes?

Is there a reason Komoot changed from conventional 1-2-5 scale progression to this wacky new multiples of 15 style? Maybe it's just me, but thinking about and gauging distances in 300s, 450s, 600s and 900s etc is too hard for my peanut brain.... 🥜🧠

Request to Dev team: Highlights and zoom behaviour; font size andvdpacing

The latest Android update (11 June) fixed a lot of the route map bugs I was experiencing in Collections and Saved routes. So credit where its due. It was a super frustrating 3 months prior to this though...

One new UI behaviour though is infuriating: if you zoom in on a route trace to see highlights or just generally more detail and click on the highlight it surfaces the highlight card. All good. But when you click the X to close or tap the map it resets the zoom to default. Can you please change this? The old sticky zoom level was much better!

Additional gripe: The new font and font size might look better, but it isn't optimised for mobile - at least not smaller mobiles. In the elevation profile you can no longer see all the key stats at a glance. Tedious horizontal micro-scrolling is now required. See old vs new design in the pics.

While I'm on a roll...is it also possible to stop that annoying 'snap to start/end' behaviour with the drag line/marker on the elevation profile? It's nearly impossible to check distance or elevation in the first and last ~10% of the profile.

Thanks!!!

Is the strength activity auto detect exercise capability getting worse with each update?

Had my forerunner 955 a few years now. I track strength activities (mostly body weight) using the 'Free' program setting. At the beginning the auto detect exercise type was pretty solid but struggled with pull ups which makes sense but was very accurate with sit ups, push ups and dips. Then Garmin released an update with touted "improved exercise detection". Cue pull ups being counted much better but sit ups , dips, push ups and inverted rows being a total inaccurate cluster fvck (both in terms of counts and correctly identifying the movement). Anyone else experience this?

Sick of A/B testing

I'm so confused. I've updated the app 3 times in 2 weeks. And each time it looks radically different. Not only that, due to significant "bugs" I've had to uninstall and then reinstall the app a couple of times now. And when I do that the app looks radically different on same version! Key example: sometimes I have a giant orange "Navigate" button on route maps (or lately "Navig..." with the ellipses which looks frankly amateur hour) and sometimes I don't. Sometimes there are the traditional 6 or 7 options in the 3-dot menu and sometimes there is 1 to 2 (make copy)! It's jarring AF.

As it stands, the May 6th update is borderline unusable on my Android. Highlights on Collections don't even show up. Clicking the orange dot does nothing except make the elevation profile disappear.

I was starting to feel goodwill to BS Dev team and their agile development. But the lack of testing and constant breaking things is getting pretty old....

Issues in photo order:

  1. Pressing an orange highlight dot doesn't surface the highlight. It disappears the elevation profile and puts map controls in centre of screen

  2. In Collections, collapsing the elevation profile disappears it. And the 3 dot menu (where the elevation toggle and other options used to live) has one option now

3.More info about the..... What exactly? It's minor but sloppy labelling/grammar (and the green pill is weirdly squished into margin)

4 and 5. Sport specific layers have their uses, but are particularly pervasive and sticky. I seem to be turning them off CONSTANTLY. Despite there being a universal toggle in premium settings? And sometimes, like this example, they are apparently on but not on.. ..(PS why an orange icon in the control but green icon in the settings? Consistency people!)

6 and 7. This is showing 2025 app version design with new design for elevation profile. As you can see, It's a much better UX seeing all pertinent info at once and no horizontal micro-scrolling!

Overall, and I've said it before as well as many others, there doesn't seem to be any testing or QA done by the Devs. Features and updates are only nice if they work. We are not constant beta testers! Focus on core elements working reliably.
