3 weeks post op

3 weeks post op, and feeling great! (DI, Dr. Chung, Catalyst).

I have a bunch of autoimmune conditions—Graves disease, endometriosis, PMOS, eczema, so was unsure what recovery would look like, but it’s been very smooth.

My left breast was bigger than my right, and I think this is why the scar is a bit bigger? But very happy with the results so far.

Sharing with parents

Hi, I’m 38, agender and getting top surgery July 21.

I’m an only child, and have aging parents who live three hours away. They’ve been pretty supportive of me being queer and sort of ok with my partner transitioning to a man…vocal in their support in person but still getting his pronouns wrong, not sharing with broader family etc.

I’ve read a lottttttt of family related posts in preparation for sharing with mine, and unfortunately it did not go well.

I told my parents over the phone, and it was great, they basically just said to let them know what kind of support I needed.

Then when I visited in person a few days later it was a complete reversal. They couldn’t understand why I was doing this—I explained I hate wearing a bra, and really deeply dislike seeing my breasts all the time.

My mom suggested I should join a gym instead to lose weight, and suggested she take me to get fitted for a better bra (twice). My mom, who worked as an x-ray, mammogram and CT tech said that she’d seen thousands of people unhappy with their results and that scar tissue makes it way harder to detect breast cancer (which her mom died from), and that I needed to think about that.

I guess I’m just looking for advice and support. I’m really proud of myself for standing up for my needs and letting them know I was still getting the surgery.

We ended the conversation with my parents saying they support me, but can’t support this decision.

My mom also said she’s incredibly hurt I didn’t tell her sooner, but also I’m not sure she’s seeing how incredibly painful and unsupportive her reaction was.
