1987 marked the Trek 800, soon to be Trek’s entry level mountain bike. This very competitive price point became the bike industry’s bread and butter. And, you know what that means, the bike became cheaper and cheaper to produce. In 1988, the frame became hi ten instead of chromo. And the parts became composite covered pot metal instead of nice machined metal.
