XT transmission, Mavic Rims with xt hubs, XT brakes. Tyres worn out, some oxydation
Literally. Today I was trying to finish up a bike, just had to change some tubes and turn one tire the right rotation direction, because I can't read instructions when installing tires, apparently. So I had one persistent bead that wouldn't seat properly, so I kept inflating until the right noise told me it was done. Took the other wheel, same thing, had a flat spot on it so I had to overinflate a bit so it sat properly on the bead. Once I got it all round, started deflating it and curiously saw the side moving... and moving.... until it just burst. Fortunately I had the headphones on, so didn't have ringing ears for two hours like last time.
The thing is, the tire was old, the rubber in the beads was already sliding off, and I should've had better sense that it wouldn't accept going over max pressure. On the other hand, I think the bulge it had was already the walls giving way under normal pressure, and not so much unseated bead like I thought.
What are your exploding tires stories?
Bought this bike 5 years a
ago in pretty nice shape. Brakes, chain, tyres, saddle and grips have been chany,. Sell it in 2021 and recently bought it agan at my buyer (for exactly the same price) Very happy to have it again at home!
Turning this into a proper town cruiser. Was advertised as 1997 but I found this in the 2000 catalogue with the same exact specs. Either way, I scored a clean one owner bike for $60
This bike's first owner rode it on local MTB trails for a few years, then parked it. Now, I'm the 2nd owner. It got new decals and a few updates, but I think it still retains much of its original spirit. I'm using it for gravel and cruising.
Might even get some round chainrings for it but for now I don't mind the Biopace.
1987 marked the Trek 800, soon to be Trek’s entry level mountain bike. This very competitive price point became the bike industry’s bread and butter. And, you know what that means, the bike became cheaper and cheaper to produce. In 1988, the frame became hi ten instead of chromo. And the parts became composite covered pot metal instead of nice machined metal.
Rough and tumble, but it shifts smooth and rides tight. Looking forward to cleaning it up.
However, I’m at quite the crossroads with this bike whereas I’d love to leave it original and appreciate the nostalgia but I also want to build one out with all of the daydream parts.
Enjoy the photos and ride safe. ✌🏼
Santana Moda from 1990, ready to be my commuter. Very happy how it turned out and how it rides. Something unique about this bike apart from the oval, taper and fillet brazed frame. It's that the fork is a 1 1/8th threaded steer tube. Very unusual for It's time. Unfortunately the original quill stem did not come with the bike.
Anyone know where I can find one preferently in Europe. Many thanks for help!
About a year ago, I posted this bike before the rebuild. Fast forward to today… my daughter and I brought it back to life together.
She picked every single color, and I have to admit—her color choices were absolutely top notch. We tore it down, hunted for parts, added the decals, and slowly put it all back together. It took time, but every minute was worth it.
My favorite part wasn’t just rebuilding the bike—it was watching her help and seeing how proud she was of something she helped create.
I hope she rides this bike for years to come… or at least until she catches the same disease I have and wants a new bike every six months. 😂
Thanks for checking it out, and remember—it was all about having fun, making memories, and building something together. No trolls… just good vibes. 🚲💙

I believe it's a 90's MTB. I have search the net and Ai gave me Balance Ti-350 and next day I asked it gave me Bridgestone Titanium...So, my Ai seems to be broken and I figured human is probably better bet. Thanks in advance.
Just finished bringing the old girl back to great riding condition.
First restomod build, and I think it turned out pretty well! 😅 I foraged parts, but had local bike mechanic assemble for me. (Sidenote: Did Lightning McQueen get inspiration from this GT colorway?)
I built up this Centurion Pathfinder a few months ago. It’s rusty and crusty, with some really nice lugs. I’ve found very little information about this bike online. The frame is made in Japan, and it shares quite a few design cues with Miyatas I’ve seen from the same era—although this one doesn’t have U-brakes.
I always thought Centurion was a German brand, but now I’m not so sure. Does anyone know who actually built these frames, or have any information about the Pathfinder? I’d love to learn more about its history.
Hi guys, I’m moving and need to sell my dad’s old mountain bike. The shops near me tell me it’s collectible. Any idea how much I can sell it for?
