Cash on hand when buying direct (cash buyer)

We've been thinking about doing DVC for a few years now, we have a disney trip coming up and wanted during it to meet with a rep and do a room tour etc but were probably planning to walk away with a contract.

Heres my question how does the process of closing work? Do you sign a bunch of papers and present them with a cashiers check or such? Or is it more like you get a DVC account and a bill that you have to pay in 30 days or something like that?

I'm asking as the funds I planned to use are in stocks and I wasn't sure if I should sell the necessary stocks and move the money needed over to my current account before our trip or if I don't really need to worry about that until after we get the contract?

How does use year work in the first year when buying from Disney

I'm looking to buy my first contract and had a few questions how use year would work in the first year. Let's say I bought a contract in August would use year be when I buy it ie August or can I pick when in the year I want use year to be? Also if you can pick use year, let's say I bought in August 26 and set a use year for March would I then get my first year of points instantly then the next years points in March 27 or would I not get my first set of points till March 27? (Dates listed are hypothetical examples)

If buying points directly from Disney how much inventory do they have of resorts not in the 5 resorts they advertise on their website?

I'm thinking about getting into DVC and am going through the debate of direct vs resale. I know there is a lot of discussion on that already.

What I am specifically wondering. Disney lists a set number of resorts for sale on their website (currently polynesian, riviera, auluni, villas at disneyland, cabins at wilderness lodge). Lets say I want a different resort from that as my home resort. I understand that disney buys back contracts and then resells.

How likely if I said I wanted to get a contract at X resort (not in the above list), would I be able to do through disney? or would I more likely need to go via resale?

Is it worth talking to the people at the DVC stands in the park?

I am thinking about getting DVC I've been thinking about it for several years now and have pretty heavily researched it. I'm not really looking for a rep to sell me anything or 'explain how it works' etc but I was curious if there is any benefit to talking with a rep while on property? Do they offer deals/incentives beyond what is offered on the website or such?

How to accommodate swimming with Phonak Lyric

Note this post is directed specifically to users of the phonak lyric system as it is quite different to conventional hearing aids.

I am a youngish (earlier 40s) highly active individual with mild hearing loss. I am currently doing a trial of the phonak lyric system and for the most part it works well. For me something that can be inserted and mostly forgotten about is a key priority. Conventional external hearing aids are not an option I am open to / comfortable with.

The main problem for me is swimming the device is water resistant but not water proof. It is okay to shower with it but when swimming you are not supposed to put your head under the water. Note that this system unlike conventional hearing aids is not removed it is supposed to be left in for 1-2 months until the battery dies then you replace it with a new one.

For me swimming including being able to briefly submerge my head is a high priority. I have a backyard pool and play in it with my kids multiple times a week.

I am directing this specifically to users of this system: Have you made swimming work and if you have what have you done to make this a practical option? e.g. do you remove it and reinsert? Do you use custom swim molds? Some other approach?

I have a high / moderate-high impact paper out for review at one of the Nature spin off journals. Its been out for review for 100 days now. I sent the editor a polite followup message almost 2 weeks ago (my rule of thumb is not to chase until its past 90 days). No response. My co-Is think I should start emailing the journal every week and then if that doesn't work daily. My thinking is I don't want to harass / piss off the editor and make them want to reject my paper to get rid of me. What does the hive mind think how much should I be chasing vs just keep waiting?
