Hey managers, I’m curious—how do you usually spot a manager who isn’t doing well?

As a new professional, I’m working at a company to sharpen my communication skills and grow. I keep my manager in the loop with a daily update, so we’re always on the same page, even when we don’t have a meeting.

I’m all ears for feedback and happy to hear what my manager thinks. But I’ve heard things like, “Can you read?” or “This person shouldn’t be in HR.” My manager says they’re just being straightforward.

Could you help me figure out if these comments are directness, passive-aggressiveness, or just plain rudeness?
