[1984-1994] Female alternative singer, lyric similar to “I am a child of the world. I am a child.”

I’m trying to identify a female solo alternative artist I listened to on CD sometime between about 1984 and 1994.

Here’s what I remember:
• Solo artist (not a band)
• Two-word name (first and last)
• I think her first name may have been Laurie or Lori, but I’m not confident enough to rely on that.
• Distinctive, emotionally powerful voice.
• Artistically she reminded me more of Kate Bush, Laurie Anderson, early Tori Amos, or the Cocteau Twins than mainstream pop.
• I bought the CD in a regular bookstore or record store, so she had commercial distribution.

The only lyric I remember is something very close to:

“I am a child of the world. I am a child.”

That may not be exact after all these years.

I also vaguely remember seeing the word “Chyld” or “Chylde” somewhere, but that could have been in the CD liner notes rather than the lyric itself, so it may be a false memory.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Trying to identify an obscure female alternative solo artist from the late ’80s/early ’90s

I also vaguely remember seeing the word “Chyld” or “Chylde” somewhere, but that could have been in the CD liner notes rather than the lyric itself, so it may be a false memory.

I’ve already ruled out Laurie Anderson, Lori Carson, Jane Siberry, and Loreena McKennitt.

Any ideas are appreciated.
