School is a Youth Club

I had a student tell me that he comes to College for his ‘downtime’ as his external work is stressful. Excuse me, we’re here to learn not just socialise.
I then have students who drag their feet and hand in work way beyond their deadlines yet are punctual and have high attendance 🤯 blows my mind! Anyone else experience this?

How do you support learners with work experience?

The last few years I have building relationships with local employers. Firstly to introduce my Live Events production students into the corporate sector of events but also to initiate the dream of them potentially visualising themselves in professional roles.

I always have the same experience that learners struggle to find work experience opportunities themselves and I can’t offer them enough choice. How do some of you support your students? Have you been building your own relationships with local companies? Is that in the teachers responsibility??

Is there still work experience opportunities in Live Events?

I teach Live Event production at Nottingham University. Towards the end of my students final year I always transition into employability and the different career pathways.

My learners struggle to find opportunities that would give them work experience in Live Events. Is it the same for everyone else? Do people shy away from new ‘students’? How do they get experience if no gives them a chance?

Event production student Lesson

Hi, I teach event production here in the UK. For my first years for the last 10 years we have been teaching them analog gear before progressing them to digital gear in the second and third. This year we are having to make the move to replace the dimmer rack for Lighting 💡 so will have to go LED. (Too many broken fixtures, EU rules have forced the switch to LED) Is it time now to also make the move for audio to just be taught as digital only? Nothing online that the students watch are to do with analog.
