Real or Fake Vintage Ludwig Tom?
Hey everyone, I’ve been looking for a 14” tom and bought this one as soon as I found it.
It’s titled as “vintage 14” tom”, has some pictures, including closeups of the badge. From what I’ve gathered, this type of badge is considered the “pointy” badge, indicating somewhere around the 70’s. I also saw another subreddit that indicated this serial number should be from about ‘78 or ‘79 (don’t know how accurate this could be). Also, it looks to me to be a 14”x10” rack tom. The lugs and hoop (the only that remains) also look accurate. My concerns:
- the wrap looks weird, I think? It’s kind of like a black oyster pearl, but a little “too” black? I actually found an ad for a similar kit, whose wrap looks similar and it says it’s a 70s Ludwig, but who knows (link in the end)
- the wing screw has two spheres on it and the part doesn’t say “Ludwig”, like in other kits I saw
- from what I’ve seen in other kits, there should be two large circular metal parts, that I don’t seem to find in this one (although it isn’t possible to see the complete interior)
Would love some opinions on what the hell I just bought. Real? Fake? What model? Year? Anything. Thank you!
