Potential follow up snowfall next weekend

As expected, about 30cm of snow fell on the major resorts over the last 2 days, with some really good snowmaking conditions likely this week.

However, it is looking possible that next weekend we may see a very timely, and welcome follow-up system. Still early days, but the models are trending positively.

30cm+ possible... Season starter!

Finally a season starting system. 30cm or more is likely to fall across the NSW and Vic snowy mountains during Thursday evening and Friday above 1600-1700m. Snow levels should drop to around 1200m at times during Friday.

This forecast is from AerisCast, we have a 7 day free trial running at the moment :)

Forecast looking more positive

SEE THE FULL FORECAST: www.aeriscast.com

The system later this week is looking more positive. Plenty of moisture, but snow level may be the issue.

Could be 20cm above 1700m the way the models look at the moment. All about the timing of the cold air, and small changes in forecast will make a big difference. Potential for a lot more, or end up quite wet. Hopefully there will be some good snowmaking weather to follow.

Attached forecast for Perisher at 1800m.

80mm or more of rain possible before the snow arrives. We wait!

New Snow/Weather Forecasting Platform - AERISCAST

Hi guys,

Just wanted to get on here to introduce AerisCast. You might have seen this platform floating around, you may have not. It is a weather forecasting platform which allows you to view weather forecasts for any point on the globe, using both major global forecast models. Outputs are really simple and easy to interpret for anyone of any level of weather knowledge.

www.aeriscast.com

Of most interest to this group would be the snow forecast functionality, the ways we have implemented it I think is quite unique in this space. These forecasts are available for two global forecast models (ECMWF the European model, and GFS the US model - sourced from OpenMeteo), so essentially, you get two opinions.

We have an "AerisSnow" tab, which will give you the snow forecast out to about 1 week for both models. Here you can view the snow level forecast at 3 hour intervals (NOT the freezing level as most platforms use, we use the 1°C level), filtered to only timesteps which have some form of precipitation falling (far more accurate than producing freezing levels under all conditions). Outputs are in simple text/table format. Keep in mind that past about 1 week, forecast accuracy falls off considerably.

As well as this, we have some unique snow level charting available for both weather models in our charts tab for maybe the more in-depth user. There's also some other more technical charting available.

The app has plenty of other non-snow features, so feel free to check these out also. The charts features are currently free, but some other features are limited to a shorter time range on the free plan. There are some fairly sizable data costs associated with some of this, so we would love the support if you like the platform!

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Thanks,

Andrew

SOME snow possible this coming weekend

Resorts might be white again later this week. Lots of rain followed by 10-15cm snow above 1700m. Could be some good snowmaking following this system.
