Hi all,
I am starting an M.Arch program in the fall and would like some advise on laptop recommendations.
I have done a ton of research and I am torn between the following:
- I do know that Mac’s are not supported because of software compatibility but will I run into that issue and can’t I just use parallels? I am hearing very mixed things about all of these machines specifically for battery, are there any windows machines with dedicated graphics that have decent battery?
- I want a future proof lightweight premium laptop, I am aiming for 5060/5070 nvidia dedicated graphics card. 1 tb SSD, i9 core ultra (preferred), OLED screen, 32 gb of ram. Do I need an i9, or is it overkill?
- I don’t necessarily need a gaming laptop as I have a separate console for that.

Info/Requirements
I prefer a premium metal/aluminum build that is portable and light. Would prefer to have a workstation laptop and not a gaming laptop but not a dealbreaker.
I prefer Intel i9 or AMD Ryzen ai 9 processor, 8 GB of VRAM Nvidia discrete graphics card 5070, 1 TB SSD, and 32 GB ram.
OLED screen
I need help, I have been doing extensive research and have visited multiple best buy locations to get their insight on which laptop would be best for architecture.
I am starting architecture school in the fall my budget is pretty flexible as I want a premium machine will last me years. I have been told based on my criteria to go with either the Asus ProArt P16 or the Asus Zephyrus G16. As I prefer to have a light portable aluminum build laptop.
My program only requires minimum specs of i7 ultra processor, 4 gb of v ram nvidia discrete graphics card, 16 gb of ram (32g recommended), 500 gb SSD (1 tb recommended). I know the laptops I am looking at will be above the minimum specs but I want something that will last and perform well.
Based on my research and Best Buy I should be aiming for Intel ultra i9 or AMD Ryzen 9 processor.
Which laptop should I go with? Are there any other laptops that I should be looking at like the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i?
Hi All,
I am starting an M.Arch this upcoming fall 2026, what are some good laptop requirements preferably around $1,200-1,600 range.
Here are the minimum specifications from my school:

Windows 10 or above - 32 GB RAM minimum
- Discrete graphics card with 4 GB or more of memory (NVIDIA graphics card with 4 GB or more of video RAM recommended)
- 512 GB or larger SSD hard drive storage
Thanks!
Hi all,
I have been following this community since I began to seriously dive into research for going back for an M.Arch.
I am a nontraditional student with a business admin undergrad degree. I have worked in the field for the past 3 years and I chose this path once I found out about the nontraditional path back in undergrad, I was originally an architecture major. I also am a first generation college grad.
I had applied to a mix of public and private schools that are instate, however given the current economic climate I chose to decline the private school tuition. I actually decided to apply to one more school for rolling after I wasn’t happy with the options from priority round applications.
Just wanted to share my experience and was really inspired by this community and have been following since day 1. Feel free to reach out for any questions as a nontraditional applicant.
