Just adding because i had this discussion here before but [银河] used mostly in poetry to describe the endless sky or the celestial river that separates the divine/gods/loverse. [银河系] mean specifically the Milky Way Galaxy whereas [宇宙] means universe, including space-time, cosmos and everything else. [星系] is used for galaxy containing billions of stars and celestial bodies, [恒星系] is used for star systems as in planetary systems around star(s).
