supplier box and subscription - do they all lock them so we cant use other subscriptions

ive had two boxes now, buzz and formular x10, buzz woudl NOT take another account, i had strong on it, and put on a trial from another supplier with strong and would not work for the life of me. I heard some suppliers put a code or something to lock the box to thier url only, not sure exactly the issue is but i assume the only way is to wipe the box back to factory settings and remove anything added? any thoughts.

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some local Ontario perspective. I've been successfully selling a line of automotive tools on Amazon for a few years now ($50k/month range), but I'm trying to make the transition into physical retail (Home Depot, Canadian Tire, Costco).

I've reached out to a few brokers in the GTA and the quotes I'm getting back are insane. Most of them want a $20k+ "listing retainer" just to pitch the brand to a buyer. I have the sales history and the inventory to back it up, but spending that much on a gamble feels wrong.

Is this standard for Canadian retail? Are there any distributors that work on a performance/commission basis instead of these massive upfront fees? I'd love to hear from anyone who has actually made the jump from E-com to shelf space in Ontario.

I just need to vent. I’ve been running my own tool line (mostly specialty wrenches and automotive hand tools) for 3 years. We're doing about $50k a month on Amazon and our own site, so we're not tiny, but I’ve hit a total wall with physical retail.

I know the product belongs on the shelf at Canadian Tire or Home Depot. I've had guys asking for it at trade shows and local shops. But every "broker" or "consultant" I talk to in the GTA wants like $20k to $25k as an upfront "listing fee" or "retainer" before they even pick up the phone to call a buyer.

It feels like such a gatekeeper scam. I have the inventory and the sales proof, but I don't have an extra 25 grand just to gamble on a "maybe" intro. Are there any actual distributors left in Ontario who aren't trying to bleed small businesses dry? I’d happily pay a percentage of sales if someone actually got me in the door, but these upfront fees are killing me. Am I crazy or is this just how the game is played now?
