Outrageous $319 CARMA Bill for 1+Den Condo in North York. 2,029 units of "Heating & Cooling Energy"?!
Hey everyone,
I’m renting a 1-bedroom plus den condo in North York and just got my June utility bill from CARMA Submetering. The total is $319.25 CAD, and I’m trying to figure out if this is a mechanical unit defect or if I'm being completely ripped off.
I checked the breakdown, and it isn't just basic electricity. CARMA is bundling multiple meters:
- Total Electricity: $166.93 (736 kWh used)
- Total Water Charges: $58.24 (1,250 GAL Hot / 1,540 GAL Cold)
- Heating and Cooling Energy: $111.60 (2,029 units used)
There are no hidden admin fees, so this is pure consumption volume.
My biggest concern is the 2,029 units of Heating and Cooling Energy. For a small 1+den condo in June, this feels completely insane.
- Has anyone else with CARMA submetering in Toronto seen thermal numbers this high for a small unit?
- Could this point to any issue with the unit?
- What does your typical CARMA thermal/cooling usage look like?
- What does your typical utility bill look like?
Appreciate any insights or advice on how to get the property manager or landlord to check the internal HVAC unit. Thanks!
