I’m a maker in Florence, SC 3D-printing "Comfort Dragons" for local foster youth. Just finished our first batch of 11! 🐉❤️
Hey everyone,
I wanted to share a grassroots project I started recently called Print 4 Good Florence.
Moving through the foster care system can be incredibly chaotic and stressful for kids, who often have to move between homes with very few personal belongings. I wanted to use my printer to create something durable, highly tactile, and a little bit magical that these kids can keep as a constant companion through big transitions.
This week, I officially finished processing my first major milestone: a "hoard" of 11 fully articulated flexi-dragons printed in varying colorful filaments.
Currently I'm running everything off a single machine, which means the print bed is pulling double duty keeping up with demand. My goal is to eventually scale up to a second high-speed printer so we can make sure no child entering the system locally has to wait for a friend to hold onto.
If you’re a hobbyist in the SC area and want to join the maker network, or if you just want to see the timelapses of these guys coming to life, you can check out our progress on Facebook at Print 4 Good Florence.
Just wanted to share some positive maker news today! Let me know what color combinations I should try on the next batch. 🛠️✨
