So, frame sliders or no? Engine covers or no? $600 drop protection worth it?

What's the general consensus on drop protection? I'm talking newbie drops at stops - not full crash protection on track.

  • Some say do not use frame sliders, as they will crack your frame.
  • Others say only use 2-point mounted ones like the Evotech or T-Rex Racing.
  • Others say only Evotech because it has special materials to absorb damage to the frame.
  • Others use cheap $25-$100 AliExpress Evotech knock-offs, and say it saved them without damage.

Which option do you prefer, Evotech for $320, T-Rex Racing for $160, or AliExpress knock-offs?

If you shouldn't use sliders, then what's the general consensus on engine covers?

  • The GB Racing brand is $279.71 on revzilla.
  • Puig has one in their catalog, $136.50 + Sales Tax - don't know where to buy.
  • AliExpress has one for $29.97 from "GBRacing Flagship Store" which is claiming "BGRacing Official Store" with the trademark name, "60% Long Glass Fibered Nylon", and is AliExpress "Brand+ certified original".

If these AliExpress are knock-offs, then yes they probably use inferior materials, Nylon 6 instead of GB Racing's Nylon 66, as I read here discussed here on reddit and youtube comments. Also why GBRacing hasn't shut down this AliExpress store?

What would you put on your bike?

Will I regret a CB650R coming from a supermoto?

I currently ride a 300 supermoto, and it is a lot of fun ringing it out through all the gears at my local low-speed twisties and unpaved backroads. The supermoto is perfect for this, but I am soon moving to another city that will be open highway and city riding.

Want something with character. Not really interested in supersports. The 4cyl in the CB650R is very attractive, but it comes with significantly more weight. I also checked out the Trident 660/800, but I dislike the bulbous/soft design, especially the tank.

Thoughts?

Delkevic TriOval Slip-On Exhaust comparison on the KLX300

Haven't seen anyone running the 13″ TriOval on the KLX300, so here is a sound comparison to stock. I thought it looked cooler than the round, but I also didn't want the noise of the XOval. The TriOval is suppose to be in-between. And it also supports a spark arrestor to quiet it down even more.
