“Playful drivers” on expressways

People going say, 5 mph lower than what you want to do.

You go to pass them… they speed up to 4 more than you want to go.

“Okay, must not have realized they were going that slow”. So, you get back into the traveling lane.

They slow back down to the 5 mph lower than what you were doing.

“What are doing?! Do you hate people passing you that much?!”

Reminder on the first day of summer

As someone who finds summer to be his favorite season, when people just have to point out on 6/21 “the days start getting shorter from here.”

Sure… dampen the first day of my favorite season.

Neighbor holds a grudge for YEARS because my master-quilter mom gave her the 'wrong' free Christmas gift.

My mom passed away a few years ago, but remembered this story: My mom loved sewing to the point that she went to Joann Fabrics so often that a manager asked her to apply. My mom used to make quilts as a hobby but started selling them. One year she made a quilt for almost everyone she knew and cared for. (Cousins, aunts, our other neighbor friend, not the one coming. She made a wall quilt for my paternal grandmother that had photos on it with my grandmother and my grandfather, then her three children, and each of their children) Her love for quilting went so far that after years of working at Joann Fabrics she was invited to join a privately owned quilt shop to work the long arm machine and teach classes for people to trying to pick up the hobby. She even copyrighted a few patterns. While at working for the quilt shop, she entered quilt shows and won blue ribbons for her quilts.

Our neighbor when I was younger was a sweet lady slowly transformed into becoming cold and distant. My mom was starting to pull back as a friend a little due to the negativity.

One year she was over visiting one morning over coffee mentioned to my mom that she would like one of her quilts for Christmas.

My mom found a pattern for a quilt with a pocket that you could roll the quilt up and into fold it into the pocket making a pillow. I had one as a child and despite being a boy, thought it was a really cool quilt. I still have it. Mom made her one and gave it to her for Christmas.

Flash forward a few years and the neighbor came over to see my mom and said (paraphrased “You really hurt me a few years ago” my mom asked why. “I asked you for a quilt for Christmas but instead you gave me this ugly blanket thing that rolled into a pillow.”

My mom was understandably upset by this.
