How do I take my nursing home volunteering one step further?
I’m currently a junior in high school really passionate about supporting and connecting with the elderly. I have started a volunteering program at my school where we go to the memory care unit of a local nursing home every other week to play games and talk with residents. I hope to spread awareness about different progressive dementias such as Alzheimers, but Im not sure how to do it. If I were to organize community events and fundraisers, how would I get the public involved and how would I even start? Additionally I hope to not only advocate but to expand my volunteer program beyond my school and to other nursing homes around my city where high schoolers around my city can join. How do I get started and what are the next steps? I’m wondering if anyone has ever done such a passion project?
