My first project

I started this hobby a few months ago and have completed many additional projects, but this first one is still one of my favorites. I made another second, different tape measure for my Mom as a MDay gift.

Best course of action to help with the rat battle? A neighbor with A LOT of “things”

I technically live in Somerville but share a fence like with Cambridge and could use some advice on a neighbor’s yard that is suspected to host a rat colony. Is this a SeeClickFix issue?

This neighbor is very sweet, we are friendly and i would like that to continue, and their family has lived in this corner of Cambridge for years. The “yard” and deck area is filled with stuff and I suspect this includes rats. The neighbor is the first to a “free” pile, and has collected a lot of…. junk to most people. My trash cans are stored along the fence line and are eaten through constantly, and other signs of rat activity (including rats). It’s gotten worse with nearby construction and I have new holes dug near my foundation despite mitigation efforts.

When trying to broach the subject delicately it’s usually met with some form of “I should get rid of some of my junk” and there may be a couple things out on trash day but a real cleanup would need a dumpster.

My question - what is the best resource to help them clean up? I was okay with the eyesore until the rats started encroaching. Obviously rats come with city living, but I don’t want to live next to an ecosystem catering to them.
