Struggling today

Hi everyone,

I’m struggling today, my dad is quite depressed and I am struggling to process everything as it’s all happened so quickly. Hes so frail now and I can’t really even hug him like I used to. I just feel so alone still. How did everyone else cope watching their parent deteriorate?

Not sure if I’m in denial about my dad? Or is this anticipatory grief?

So the medical professionals have said they can’t do surgery or treatment for him. We’re in the Uk so he’s been referred to St Barnabas.

The thing is - mentally he’s still the same prior to everything that’s transpired. He didn’t want to know how long he had left. And he’s such a strong willed personality, it just feels like he’ll never deteriorate. Or maybe he’ll last longer than the prognosis?

He’s able to transfer, he makes himself try to walk with a walker, even though he does struggle. He keeps saying he’s “getting better”. The physio provided a piece of equipment for when he deteriorates and has said it could be gradual or aggressive, but now he’s home, he will improve temporarily.

I’ve not really had time to process everything that’s happened in the past 6 weeks. I’m well aware of his diagnosis and prognosis but it just feels so surreal. Is this normal?

It is glioblastoma…

Hi guys, an update… my dad had the scans, just before he he had the biopsy - they took us into a room and told us he may not survive the biopsy as the tumour had gone quite deep into his brain. They had to cut 5cm deep.

His left side was paralysed to begin with, but it’s getting better since being on steroids. I think this gave us all false hope. However on Friday, they confirmed it was glioblastoma, it’s inoperable and treatment is deemed to be too aggressive for my dad. To be fair, dad doesn’t want to have treatment if it just gives him a little extra time but means he’ll be sick the entire time.

His prognosis is 3 months. I’m keeping busy by being a rock for my mum, looking after their dog and visiting dad whilst they arrange to get him home. This all feels so surreal. Like, what do I do now?

rough times - smosh is the best ❤️

So, my dad has a biopsy on Sat.

I also injured my foot 8 months ago, wore a medical boot as it was a bone stress injury - and was utterly devastated that i couldn’t get to London comic con to meet Damien, but it still hasnt healed so I’m seeing a top foot specialist later today.

Quite literally, the only thing keeping me sane right now is smosh videos. Mostly the AITA Reddit stories and the chat. They’ve been an absolute godsend for me. Shame i cant email them directly to thank them. Shane, Damien, Amanda, Courtney. They never fail to make me laugh & smile. ❤️

My dad has been diagnosed with a brain tumour

So as the title says. Hes had scans done, 2 neurosurgeons have put down that they think it’s glioblastoma. He has the biopsy on Saturday. I’m trying to be strong for my mum - my dad is teaching me things now for when he’s not here as hes deteriorated rapidly. If it is glioblastoma, he may not have long left.

On top of that, my mum isnt really coping.

I also injured my foot 8 months ago, wore a medical boot as it was a bone stress injury but it still hasnt healed so I’m seeing a top foot specialist later today.

For context, im single and live with a flatmate. No partner.

People have text me but thats it. Not one person, who I consider a friend, has offered to meet up with me and spend time with me. I’m off work currently as well, I just feel so alone and so overwhelmed with all this grief. I can barely walk as it is. I feel stuck. And I’m trying to be optimistic. Not quite sure how to deal with this going forward but I guess… one step at a time. Does anyone have any good suggestions for distractions?

Has anyone else injured themselves with a bone stress injury during kickboxing?

How did you combat it? I had an MRI done only 4 weeks ago, and I have swelling in the bone itself. It’s gone on for 7 months and I’m currently in a medical boot. Omg I miss kickboxing and sparring so much!! 😭 potentially out for another 2 months after the boot comes off.

Bone stress inhury & swelling in the ankle…

Hi everyone.

I injured myself 7 months ago during kickboxing. Had a private MRI done 3 weeks ago as the injury kept reflaring, and it transpired I have a bone stress injury in my 2nd metatarsal in my left foot and swelling in my left ankle.

I have been advised to wear a medical boot, except my job role requires me to walk a lot. Ive managed to get my duties adjusted slightly, but I’m frustrated as it just feels like it isn’t healing and my doctor just said I needed to “manage it - I can still weight bear, but don’t overdo it!?” Ive been offered stronger painkillers, and Thats it.

My ankle constantly appears puffy to me and I do still get discomfort when I’m walking even small distances now.

How do I help the healing process? I’m usually a very active person and I’m really getting depressed as it’s affecting my life and my work now.
