Finally! Trader Jones is officially taking over the old Century 21 site in Bay Ridge 🎉

fter years of staring at that massive empty storefront wondering what would ever replace it, the wait is officially over.

According toCouncil Member Kayla Santosuosso, Trader Joe’s has just been confirmed as the grocery anchor for the new Century Marketplace development at the former Century 21 site on 86th Street.

It feels like we've been hearing rumors about a grocery store moving in here forever, so it's wild to actually see it official. No opening date has been dropped yet, but between this and bringing some life back to the 86th Street corridor, this is a massive win for the neighborhood.

Why are so many new pharmacies opening in Brooklyn lately?

I've noticed a ton of new independent pharmacies popping up in my neighborhood in Brooklyn, sometimes several within a few blocks of each other and right next to existing CVS/Walgreens locations.

Does anyone know what's driving this? A few things I'm wondering:

- Did a law or regulation change (state or federal) that made it easier or more profitable to open one?

- Is it related to Medicaid or insurance reimbursement, or specialty/home-delivery prescriptions?

- Are these actually serving the community, or is something shady going on?

Any pharmacists, healthcare workers, or people who know the industry, I'd love to hear what you're seeing. Thanks!
