Please can I ask for some help as I’m spiralling at the minute.
Female 40. Sorry in advance for the stream of consciousness, need to get this out.
I had an assessment yesterday with the Leeds GP Confederation Adult ADHD Service and at the end of the interview I was verbally told I had been diagnosed with ADHD and the next steps.
This included a brief conversation about how I was feeling about it, that something be from the clinical (I think that’s the name) team would be in touch in the next week to discuss medication options and report sent to me and my GP. We discussed that the medications options would be them telling me the options and I would need to make a decision on how or whether to proceed etc rather than just them telling me. Which is how I am so sure that I remember all this correctly.
A few hours later I received a copy of the report mentioned and it says due to no actual evidence (non anecdotal, ie school reports) before the age of age 12 an ADHD diagnosis could not be established and suggested some books to read etc.
I have runs the number on the letter and it just goes to an O2 voicemail and I don’t know what to do. I am absolutely spiralling, can’t think or stop thinking.
Does anyone know if this has happened before or what to do about it. I’ve filled a message form in on my GPs site as there’s no appointments available to book online but I genuinely can’t stop spiralling.
I’m an NHS referral if it matters, not sure what other information would be useful. I’ve read the report over and over as best I can in the frame of mind I am now and it’s all the pre 12 year old evidence such as school reports that is mentioned, but I was never asked for school reports and I have only one surviving family member who can provide little detail of my childhood though did fill in the referral when asked with a few lines.
Any help or advice appreciated, the letter is so a definite NO but the consultation ended with CALL YOU NEXT WEEK FOR MEDICATION and I don’t know what to do.
