HRT - early menopause, is it necessary
I recently started HRT (estradiol patch + progesterone pill) as a “protective” measure after early onsets menopause, at age 39. As I’ve dug into the scientific papers on the effects and benefits of HRT, I’m starting to question whether the protective claims really hold up — particularly for cardiovascular and brain health.
Are there actually proven benefits here? Specifically: does HRT reduce the risk of dementia, lower cardiovascular risk, and preserve bone health? (The bone one seems better supported, but I’m less sure about the others.)
And the bigger question: is HRT genuinely necessary for those entering menopause early, or is the “protective” framing resting on weaker evidence than it’s presented as? Just so much conflicting information about all of this.
