can i train to run a 50 miler in two months

hi all - i ran a marathon in march and since then have maintained around 15-20 miles per week. recently i got into trail running and did a 100 mile relay (each leg was around 12.5 miles) and had a ton of fun.

during that training and after i was doing 1-2 trail runs a week and my long run base is sitting at around 10ish miles just because it doesn’t need to be more.

basically someone reached out because they are no longer doing this 50 mile race in the end of August and they asked if i would like their bib. I’ve been planning to run this race in the next year or so but i dont want to miss this opportunity.

how feasible would it be for me to switch my training to ultra training in these next two months? the cutoff is 14 hours and yesterday i did a 7mile trail run (500ft of elevation gain) in about an hour

Ankle brace Recs

Hello!

TLDR; I have been getting into trail running and have weak ankles. I ran using a lightweight brace this past weekend and resprained my ankle 9 miles into a 12.5 mile race. I'm looking for something heavy duty but lightweight and would love some recommendations.

The long story.

In high school, I sprained my ankle so severely that I almost had to have the fluid drained from my ankle to reduce the swelling. I then did what all teenage athletes do and continued to play soccer and run on it during my recovery. By the end of soccer camp that year I was basically taping my ankle together before each game because there was no support left in my ankle. Time goes on and I would roll it on occasion while running but for the most part it was fine. Then three years ago at a soccer game I like sprain-sprained it. It turned purple immediately and I think that's the first time I genuinely tore a ligament. However, I went to the hospital and they called it a minor sprain & so I treated it like a minor sprain. Once I could put pressure on it I began running again, didn't do any PT, and was working a service industry job so I never gave it a full rest.

Since that injury I have sprained my ankle to various degrees probably like 4 times (?). The one time I tore a ligament and actually broke a piece of my ankle bone off in the process. But each time I injure it is like 1-2 weeks before a big race I've been training for so I usually run the race and then rest for 2-4 weeks and repeat the cycle.

Post the bone-breaking injury - I did finally go to PT... but it was mostly for my runners knee pain.

That being said - this past year i have BEHAVED I PROMISE. My friends talked me into signing up for trail races (something I have actively avoided because of my weak ankles). When I signed up, I stepped back from soccer (I still sub on occasion because I love it I'm sorry) and stepped up on the PT.

Things I do for injury prevention: I strength train and the accessory lifts on leg day are specifically catered to single leg strengthening to prevent knee and ankle injuries. I do yoga twice a week. I take rest days. And I bought one of those ankle boards and do that for like 5-10 minutes each morning. When I play soccer I wear a heavy-duty brace (Med Spec ASO Ankle Stabilizer) and when I trail run I wear a more flexible lightweight one because the soccer one hurts after a while and limits movement (duh) (Sleeve Stars Ankle Brace).

During my race this weekend I wore the lightweight one and about 9.5 miles into my 12.5 mile race I mis-stepped I guess and rolled my ankle pretty bad. I heard a pop and couldn't really put pressure on it for about half a mile and then I ran/walked the rest of the race because there wasn't really an easy way to get out. Two days later and she's pretty swollen and tender still but I can move it and walk around on it so that's good I guess.

I have a cross country style 5K race this Sunday, and I'm doing 14 miles of the Laurel Highlands 70.5 mile relay the next week so I'm looking for a quality brace to try out to get me through this cycle and to my mandatory month off in July. (I promise I have a plan to not run for a minute - past me was just a bit zealous with the race signups)

I found BetterGuards during my search and they are pretty pricey. Wondering 1) if anyone recommends them or something else and 2) if you do recommend it - which one would you rec? I'm between the light (no compression sock) and the 3.0(compression sleeve). It says they can last up to two years if taken care of properly and I'm running a good 800-1000 miles a year so I'm willing to spend the money if it's worth it, but I just don't want to buy it just to buy it ya know.

Sorry that was so long and a lot. Please don't yell at me for running on ankle sprain - my boyfriend is a PT and he does it enough for everyone lol

Thank you!

Hike Recs Needed!

My friends and I are planning a 10 day Utah hiking trip in October and I am looking for everyones favorite hikes.

Our current "tentative" itinerary is to fly into Vegas  → drive to capital reef  → camp in capital reef  → Arches  → stay in Moab  → Canyonland  → camp in Canyonland  → stay in Page, AZ  → Bryce Canyon  → stay in either Cedar City, Duck Creek, Panguich, or Virgin  → Zion  → back to Vegas

Also if you have any suggestions on a different order of events or anything like that feel free to share !! We are looking to finalize lodging and everything by early next week so that we can do the fun stuff (working to pay for this trip lol)

What order should I plan my travel

Hello!
I'm planning a 10 day hiking trip to Utah with about 5 people in October.

So far we have landed on a route for the trip so I basically have a master spreadsheet that has all of the different spots we want to go to, the distance between them, the closest airbnbs & their prices per night, flight costs, camping costs, and car costs.

I know this is a big trip so it will come with a big cost - however I don't want to drop $1000 right out the gate ideally. How would you all recommend going about booking things?

We need flights, airbnbs/camping spots/hotels, and to rent a car.

I'm open to any and all hacks and one thing I was thinking of was opening a new credit card with 0%APR for x amount of months so that we can just book everything now and then pay it off as we need to lol (and hopefully get a sick cashback bonus)

I usually use Priceline for booking as well so if anyone has any recs on that please let me know!

relay leg strategies

i’m running a trail relay - 100 miles and 8 team members. (all the same loop) wondering if there is any sort of strategy in picking legs? i had everyone vote for what leg they’d like and the slowest & fastest person voted for the first leg. i’m not sure if i should have the slowest go so that the group spreads out for the speedy people or have the fast person go first and get a head start of sorts.

we know we will not be winning, just wondering if it matters either way
