I can feel the shift, can you?

I can feel the shift, can you?

I most likely suffer from confirmation bias, but I'm starting to see signs everywhere.

  1. My fiancee's CEO giving up on his vibe coded app, because it turns out it's not that simple and it's taking a lot of time (who would have thought that software engineering is a real, complicated job?)
  2. My CEO announced our new branding, featuring "his best mate Claude". 1 month later, he says it's not quite ready because he used it and had "various degree of success". My colleague saw and told me it was dog shit.
  3. My CTO is getting quite concerned with the costs, and the (lack of?) quality of our code after a potential data breach.
  4. Various people online getting more and more vocal about a shift in their organisation.
  5. Non-tech people around me simply getting bored with it; the novelty has worn off.
  6. Fable is worthy of its name, a child story that had no substance and puts you to sleep.
  7. Ed Zitron, the voice that carry us through that shit, can be seen right left and center.
  8. Journalists and analysts pretending to be skeptic. Not that I trust them, but they will shift with the wind like a windvane.
  9. Karp is still the alpha asshole, but he's now throwing a tantrum against his mates.
  10. DOGE is cancelled, because surprise-surprise, it was doge shit.
  11. Market is volatile, the Kospi halted trade many times the last few weeks.
  12. Meta apparently selling compute, and get rewarded by the market with a positive bump on the market.
  13. Private funds allegedly receiving more and more demand from investors get their money out.
  14. The AI-sphere mentioning GLM every 5 seconds.
  15. Random software cutting their free AI offering, like JIRA (Atlassian) restricting access to their support when Rovo.
  16. IPO delayeds.
  17. And many more that I'm forgetting...

The point is, I feel a shift; I could be wrong as I want this whole circus to stop.

Do you relate to this?

I can't wait for this to be over, it has done so much damage to the world.

My income protection insurance, Zurich, has removed mental health issue entirely from my cover after I got diagnosed with ADHD.

As the title suggests, I'm dumbfounded.

I don't know how this is legal.

I am a software engineer, and as a knowledge worker, mental health is more likely to prevent me from working than a physical impairment.

These are the altered terms:

>Mental Disorder

>No benefit will be payable due to any mental disorder (as defined by the most current DSM manual as at the policy start date) including adjustment disorders, anxiety, depression, post traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse (including alcohol), behavioural disorders, functional neurological disorders, including treatment and/or complications of any such mental disorders. In addition no benefit will be payable for symptoms of stress, cognitive impairment, fatigue or exhaustion; chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, including treatment or related complications.

They also exclude an 'extreme' sport I do (which I don't want to divulge to remain anonymous) which is fair enough.

But this mental health exemption clause is insanely broad.

I am not medicated, and manage it well. Very few people know. There are ups and downs, but nothing that prevent me from doing my job well. My company isn't even aware that I have ADHD, I didn't disclose it.

I had a promotion this year, and I'm doing great professionally. I'm well aware of my strengths and weaknesses. I can manage very well most days.

I had to disclose it to the insurer as I had a new medical assessment. I made sure to point out that it was not problematic in my life and managed.

This was really hurting to read; I don't expect insurance companies to be 'friendly', but this feels like discrimination. Feels like a kick in the guts.

Is this legal? Any recommendations for another insurer?

AI is ruining software development and today, I'm fucking over it. It's completely FUCKED.

Sorry if this is a low effort post, but I need it out of my chest and this seems the sanest place to do so.

AI has absolutely ruined the software world.
The industry is a pile of slop.

Most days, I fall into one of those 2 moods (and I assume, 99% of the industry):

  1. Completely checked-out. Get my pay check and keep what's left of my soul for outside of work.
  2. Infuriated, angry and ready to rip that fucker who sent me another PR of 2000 lines of absolute fucking slop, that is ugly, makes no-fucking sense and doesn't work.

On those days, I'm glad I work remotely because I think I'd be tempted to shove my keyboard in the fucking mouth of the first person that says "Claude thinks...".
I would abuse the shit out of that fucking colleague who is bombarding everyone with slop he didn't write, didn't read and didn't test.

The one that could barely use a fucking terminal two years ago and now thinks he is a h4ckz0r because he uses a CLI.

You are a rude, irrespectful, arrogant prick who show no respect to those around you - why would I? Fuck you.

Fuck the CTO who has not touched a line of code since Java 3 came out, who is completely out of touch and sends you AI generated powerpoints and give you 2 weeks to guess what is in his fucking head and somehow "make it work, use AI". Fuck you.

Fuck the CEO who is having a half-boner every time he opens the AI chat bot.

Fuck them.

I love software. I'm a geek. I spent thousands of hours on the computer for the love of it. I love it.
Difficult, rewarding, interesting, challenging... you name it.

Now I fucking hate my job. With passion. Most of us do.

Don't tell me it's because I have an identity crisis. It's because it's fucked.
It's all falling apart in front of us, and no one cares. It's just slop.

It's meaningless slop. Slop, slop, slop, slop, slop, slop, slop, slop.

All day. Fucking slop, slop, slop, slop, slop, slop, slop, slop.

More fucking slop.

Slop every-fucking-where.

Ah yeah, we are productive. Yeah, for sure. Yes, we generate FUCK TONS of code, spec, readme, documentation. Thousands and thousands of lines.

No one reads it. No one cares.
No one gives a shit.

Those who cared, gave up. Those who didn't care, they still don't and think they are hot shit, spewing slop everywhere..

It's fucked, absolutely fucked.

Anyhow, I can't even explain of destroyed the industry is.
Think it's bad? It's 1000x worse.

We will pay the price, not those dickheads at the head of the labs. They don't give a shit, never did.

Yes, this is an anger post - and no, I'm not holding it wrong.

If you gave two fucks about software engineering, you know how bad it is. LLM's have ruined software for the foreseeable future.
