My sympathies to Melinda. I’m thinking about the awful conference Lazy hosted with Jill Biden which lasted less than an hour. I’d also be concerned for security since Lazy basically outed Melinda’s private whereabouts as currently being in London and leaked this private meeting. I doubt Melinda will be leaking this meeting in some media release. I’d be mortified for Melinda that her private chat with another woman counted as work. What a KPI!

But hey, this meeting with Melinda counted as “work” for Dolittle. I suppose they can share many things, like their (ex) husband’s infidelities and Epstein connections. ☕️

When I write that it is déjà vu for those of us who lived through the Diana years, it is because what the Palace is doing to the Sussexes is what they have done with Diana.

Chuck and his whorse have no conscience in throwing people under the bus. There is no redemption for them. Willy is going down the same path. They truly are the ones who are paranoid about their lack of popularity, insecure about their future, because they do the bidding of powerful men.

Reading about Earl Spencer’s suicidal thoughts, how many of the press victims have gone through with it as a result? The dead bodies as a result of the fragility of publicly funded, cosseted and entitled people?

This part discusses how Charles Spencer himself gets stalked by the tabloids and became suicidal. They operate like the mafia and behave worse than the mafia.

Harry wrote something similar in his book, and I’d like to think uncle and nephew have shared their experiences against the tabloid mafia. While the king and heir have already made their deals with the devil. The question is how many more lives will be destroyed before they regulate the media.

I love the little anecdotes that the Earl has peppered throughout the book like this passage:

“[My proudest moment was] building the bridge for Princess Diana.”

Who was the swan gift-giver and who was this soldier? I’d love to learn more about them. There’s so much meaning and meaningful moments for those impacted by Diana. And coupled with Harry’s parachute today, the theme of service is there in the Spencer line and continues on with Harry.

There are so many Diana stories, and there’s a treasure trove of them in this book.

I remember how much he blasted the Windsors, but also the spontaneous and thunderous applause he received at the end. It was a woah moment. We were witnessing history being made.

And he nearly lost his composure - that will never do, stiff upper lip and all that - but what a beautiful tribute. That speech of his is up there with other historical speeches.

Also note the people inside the Abbey who did not clap or gave the slow clap to Spencer. The cameras did well not to focus on the Windsors at that particular moment.

I think this was Philip’s moment of showing up his disappointing son. A masterclass in how to interact with people, and also to feel the mood of the crowd who were carefully selected as they were representatives from Diana’s charities.

Philip had nothing to fear, Chucky everything.

Much speculation was made over why Margaret didn’t. One theory was she had suffered the same media treatment over her failed romance with Townsend. She had no sympathy for Diana.

Yup, the Windsors had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 20th century for this bare minimum effort moment: “We can’t have that! It’s unprecedented!”

The Earl Spencer’s forthcoming book is bringing up all sorts of memories for people like me who remembered that week like no other. From the confusing early reports of the car accident of whether she was alive or not (she was already dead), to the funeral cortege.

Harry’s “Mummy” card simply written, on a bed of white roses was truly heartbreaking. Reading Spare decades later made me realise how Harry just blanked out that moment, that he had fantasised that mummy had escaped and had a new identity. Because if he truly felt that loss there and then, he’d have never gone through it.

But for me, this was also another poignant moment. A brief moment away from the crowds, but never truly hidden. Those little pats on the back meant the world.

I’m also glad the entire coverage of that funeral is on YouTube. Reading Swan Song and watching this historic footage will bring another level of meaning from a key actor who was there.

Chuck didn’t want to be booed and pelted by the crowds. I can imagine Philip thinking what a complete disappointment and failure Chuck is. Another fuck up by Chuck.

And look at Charles Spencer’s face. I remember he was the only one whose face was fury and barely contained anger during that entire walk, presaging his eulogy. Oh he was very indignant. And now we know why.

I also remember the moment where he patted Harry’s back as they went through a small covered passageway.
