I think Instagram has created a weird relationship with privacy

People want to feel authentic, but being authentic online often means revealing personal information. Then once an account grows, the same information can become something strangers feel entitled to know.

There's a big difference between letting people see your personality and giving them access to your private life. I think creators are going to have to get much better at drawing that line.

Do you think Instagram creators should build an audience somewhere else too?

Relying entirely on one platform makes me a little uncomfortable. An account can spend years building followers and still have no direct way to reach those people if the platform changes how distribution works.

I'm not saying everyone needs a newsletter or website. But having somewhere else your audience can find you seems like a sensible backup.
