Plow plane error

I have a plow plane and a tongue and groove plane, and they both seem to do this when I use them. I know it has to be user error but I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I try to take my time and make sure the fence/plane stays parallel on the board but no matter that the fence side of the groove always looks like this. Any thoughts?

Face vise location help

Would it be better to place a quick release face vise on the inside or outside of the left leg? I know it needs to be close to the leg as possible but does it necessarily matter if it hangs directly outside of the leg to the left or always keep it on the inside to the right of the leg? For reference the bench will be used for hand tool woodworking.
