F1 Visa - I-20 shows Personal Funds $0 - Will it cause issues? [New Delhi July 2026]

Hey everyone,

Appearing for F1 interview at New Delhi on July 1, 2026.

My setup:
• Stevens Institute of Technology MS CS Fall
• Scholarship from Stevens
• Education loan from InCred — XXXX amount
• Uncle’s savings — XXXX amount (legal guardian, co-signer on loan)
• Total funding exceeds Year 1 requirement comfortably

Concern:
I-20 shows Personal Funds = $0 since loan + 14000 dollars scholarship covers everything. Uncle’s funds are just emergency backup. Planning to carry his bank statement.

Questions:

1.	Anyone approved with Personal Funds = $0 on I-20?

2.	Should I mention uncle’s funds or stay silent?

3.	Similar experiences?

Thanks in advance🙂

F1 Visa Interview — Does Loan + Scholarship + Emergency Funds — Will it raise red flags? [Fall 2026]

Hey everyone,
Appearing for my F1 visa interview on July 1, 2026 at New Delhi Embassy. Wanted to get community opinions on my financial situation before the interview.

My_qualifications:
• University: Stevens Institute of Technology
• Program: MS Computer Science — Fall 2026
• GRE: 330/340
• Scholarship: $14,000 merit scholarship

Financial breakdown:
• Stevens scholarship: $14,000
• InCred education loan: $67,000
• Uncle’s emergency savings: ~$26,000 (he is my legal guardian and co signer on loan)

•	Total: \~$107,000
•	Year 1 requirement on I-20: $68,276

My concern:
My I-20 shows Personal Funds = $0 because my primary funding (loan + scholarship) fully covers Year 1 requirement. My uncle’s $26,000 is just emergency backup — not primary funding. I plan to carry his bank statement as supporting document and mention it casually if asked.
My questions:

1.	Will loan + scholarship alone raise red flags even though it covers Year 1 completely?

2.	Should I mention uncle’s emergency funds or stay silent about it?

3.	Since I-20 shows $0 personal funds — will mentioning uncle’s savings create inconsistency?

4.	Has anyone gotten approved with similar financial setup?

Additional context:
• No US relatives
• Uncle raised me since childhood — only family in Hyderabad
• Have $67,000 loan to repay in India — strong return intent
• VAC completed May 10 Hyderabad
Any advice from people who’ve been through similar situations would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks 🙏
