Tried New Jazz Club - Churchill Grounds

Last night, I went to the new jazz club in the old Greenes building on Trinity. It’s called Churchill Grounds. Apparently it was their first night open to the public. I had a great time! The club itself is quite a nice size, with a mezzanine too. The sound was great, and the musicians were so impressive.

There is a Cuban restaurant, Clave, that’s also opening in the building (in less than a couple weeks they said). That food was served in the club during the show, and it was delicious.

Unfortunately, attendance was minimal. I was surprised. I hope more people check it out! The owner talked for a second, and it’s clearly an establishment built with a lot of heart

Do you listen to lyrics???

I’m a lifelong instrumental musician and radio show host … but my brain literally doesn’t process lyrics, it’s like they’re not there. How contradictory! I’ve gotten myself in trouble a few times by playing suggestive songs on-air that I failed to fully read the lyrics of.

My body and brain react to music solely based on sound and production. I’ve never added a song to a playlist because of its lyrical contents (unless there are repetitive, catchy phrases). Honestly, I will often know if I like a song within the first minute. Because of this, it’s rare that I’ll enjoy an album in its completeness (based on sound, not artistry), even if it’s by one of my favorite artists … it’s like the picky eater equivalent of music consuming.

Is this an AuDHD thing?? Does anyone else experience music this way??

Lack of generosity and ability to share

Hi everyone! 22F, new informal AuDHD diagnosis and in the early stages of understanding/accepting myself. I’m wondering if anyone has a similar intrinsic experience:

I’m really bad at sharing things and operating with generosity. Especially in the context of money, food, clothes, and my time. I never want to voluntarily pay for a friend’s coffee, I never want to help around the house with chores, I never want to share food (and if it’s an appetizer, I monitor the portions everyone takes), I will never volunteer to drive someone to the airport, and letting someone borrow my clothes is completely off the table. This has been the case since early childhood.

My neurotypical mom is the complete opposite and says things like “I don’t know how you’re my daughter”. I wish I was more like her in this context. I feel like a bad person. It’s like I’m deeply attached to physical items and money, but I also have no desire to inconvenience myself to help someone else.

Is this an AuDHD thing or no? Does anyone relate?

Having trouble fully accepting AuDHD

Hi everyone! This post is both a vent and a question. I’m 22 wondering if anyone resonates with pieces of my story, because I’m having so much trouble fully seeing/accepting myself as AuDHD without a psychologist diagnosis. I live with so much self doubt and question everything, but being part of this community for the past couple weeks has been close to life- changing:

I was born to an extremely neurotypical single-mom-by-choice via anonymous donor sperm. She is my person in this life, I have developed a pretty unhealthy (one-sided) attachment to her since college. I always need her opinion and validation on everything. She is the only person I feel unconditional love for in this world. As a young child, I was quickly identified as an HSP. That’s what my mom told me throughout my life.

I’ve always struggled with making friends without knowing why. Always. So many years spent yearning for a friend group. I do best with gay men. I have always wanted to love parties, clubbing, and big groups, but I have just accepted that I don’t and never will. As a kid, I preferred talking to adults. I do really well in professional settings. But no matter if it’s a new friend or a boss, I always have self doubt about what I said. I also have never been successful in dating … literally ever. I grew up in a bigger body and thought things would change with weight loss, but nope.

I glided through school and college (graduated May). I never cared about it, never had any deep interests, it just came easily to me with minimum effort. I also used online resources and such. Playing music was my “thing” — I was gifted at it but not passionate. So I quit before college.

Since turning 18, I am now in contact with my sperm donor. He is 100000% neurodivergent, and most of my 10 half siblings are too. Getting to know him is helping me understand myself a little more. But since my mom and him would have never been together, I feel like a contradiction. Parts of me are incredibly pragmatic and the rest is neurodivergent.

I’m an unwavering picky eater and need to suck my thumb and hold my baby blanket whenever possible (so embarrassing).

I’m addicted to scrolling, eating, and weed. This has all been exacerbated the past couple years. I now have no motivation to be social, do anything that helps myself (have always struggled with building healthy habits), and I live in a constant state of dread for my life. My outlook has always been negative, but it didn’t used to be like this with the lack of social motivation. Is this burnout? Is it just depression?

I worked 5 semesters in corporate 9-5 internships and HATED it. I do well, somehow get praised for my minimum effort, but I hate everything about it. So I don’t know where to take my life from here.

I did a full psych evaluation 4 years ago after mention of ADHD from my therapist. My mom was adamant that it was not a possibility. I was diagnosed with “severe social anxiety, sensory sensitivities, and anxiety/depression symptoms”. This never sat right with me, but it’s a reason Im held back from accepting AuDHD which was informally confirmed by the same therapist who brought up ADHD (I stopped talking to her after it, but reconnected recently). My mom has done a bunch of research and now believes AuDHD is the answer too. I read posts in this group and feel deeply seen but also don’t resonate sometimes. I know it’s a spectrum. I don’t know who I am or what I like …. I’m just realizing that I never have. I’ve presented how I think I should but now I want to be nothing (no thoughts of self harm). I’ve tried a million different meds in the past four years — SSRIs, stimulants, etc. No SSRI has ever helped. Adderall and Vyvanse have their executive functioning/binge eating benefits, but they always result in almost-crippling self doubt and rumination on the come down. People can be quite complimentary of me, but I inherently don’t agree or see what they’re saying as the truth.

Also, I’ve been through probably 10 therapists. None of them ever help … I never approached therapy knowing I was neurodivergent until now, so maybe that’s the problem. I can easily talk about things that are bothering me.

This was quite disjointed, thank you so much if you’ve read this far. I know I’m only scratching the surface of who I am. Does it sound like AuDHD is plausible?

I’m looking to do a solo trip (22F) for a week following graduation. I worked for an airline in college and studied abroad in France so have gotten a good taste for (western) Europe, but I never made it to Portugal or Croatia.

I enjoy beautiful scenery, activities (but not crazy hiking), accessible public transport, good food, and not feeling overwhelmed by too many other tourists.

I haven’t come up with much of a plan for either place. Would fly into and out of Dubrovnik; would fly into Lisbon and out of Porto. 8 nights.

I’m on a mindful budget, and the flight costs are the same. Would appreciate any insight into which location for end of May!!
