When coming up with startup ideas, what do you guys do when an idea you have has already been built by someone else. It's almost impossible to think of a completely new idea so with this competition, how do you know if you should pursue it further or if the competition is more likely to just beat you?

For example, I was thinking about creating a dev tool which is largely an LLM that understands your screen and recent tasks already, so that you don't have to provide the context to your agent every time. Instead they already know what's happening and what you're working on. Upon doing more research, i found a company called "littlebird" which has ~40 employees, passed an initial seed round, and is already a pretty established app which does something similar.

For cases like this, how do you know if you should just move on, or find a wedge within the competition?

I’m an intermediate runner but I notice a lot of bad habits when I run that slow me down such as booking the start too fast, slowing down too much during the latter portions of the run, bad cadence or stride length, and I find it difficult to run “optimally”. 

Current fitness apps such as Runna, Nike Run Club, or Strava give cool statistics and static running advice such as target paces or heart rate zones, but does anyone find that these apps are not enough?

I was considering building an Apple Watch app that would measure your biometrics (heart rate, skin temperature, rate of respiration) and make inferences of your running efficiency in order to give you advice that is more dynamic. So instead of setting a fixed goal and running 5min/km the entire time, the app would give you real time advice of when you should speed up or slow down based on how your body is responding. 

For example, it could detect inefficient use of energy like a pace that’s too aggressive and slows down your finishing time, pacing that’s too slow and could be increased without additional fatigue, how to optimize your pace by splits, or even how to run most effectively in different weather or terrain conditions. 

This is still an early idea so I’m open to a lot of feedback. I mostly want to hear about what people's thoughts are. For example:

• What apps do people use currently, what’s good and what’s bad about them
• Is this an idea that people would benefit from? Ex. if your pace improved by 5s/km or you could train for a marathon a few weeks quicker
• What would keep someone from switching to an app like this and what would this app need in order to be competitive in the industry
