Hot take: a lot of hair problems start at the scalp
I’ve noticed something over the years of cutting hair that I find interesting.
Most people seem to spend a lot of time thinking about their hair and very little time thinking about their scalp.
If someone’s face became oily, flaky, itchy, irritated, or inflamed, most people would immediately start thinking about skincare. But when the scalp does the exact same thing, the solution is often just buying another shampoo and hoping for the best.
The reason I bring this up is because I’ve seen some surprisingly dramatic improvements when people start focusing on scalp health. Less dandruff, less itching, better oil control, less shedding, and sometimes even signs of regrowth in people who had significant buildup or scalp issues.
Lately I’ve seen a lot of discussion around things like rosemary, caffeine shampoos, ketoconazole shampoos, scalp massage, scalp exfoliation, tea tree, salicylic acid, and clarifying treatments.
Some people swear one of those things changed everything. Others say they noticed absolutely no difference.
I’m curious where everyone here falls on this.
Have you ever focused specifically on improving your scalp health and noticed a measurable change in your hair?
What actually worked for you, and what turned out to be mostly hype?
