[Hair Removal] Issue after shaving head bald for the first time!

Hello! I shaved my head bald with a DE razor without having proper after care. It’s been a week and the redness or bumps have persisted. I have been using SA lotion, benzoyl peroxide 5% wash and some GA toner. I really want this to heal so I can try shaving again with better fundamentals. Please help with any advice regarding speeding up healing or what routine to use to help fix this.

[Routine Help] Blackheads

Hi all. I have a disability that’s been affecting me really bad recently. I also have the crappy luck of not having many women to learn from in life if any really. It’s been hard to take care of my skin. I’ve reached my mid 20s and am quickly noticing the decline in my health/skin. I have blackheads all over my body almost. I get them all over my nose, my forehead, the skin under my eyes, behind/inside ears, around nostrils, all over my breasts, I even find them on my hips. Some filled with many many hairs. I don’t know how it got this bad but it is becoming very noticeable in my opinion and I am developing a skin picking compulsion. Do you guys have any tips for me to help all of my skin? Products for bathing and washing my face possibly? I sweat a lot lately. My face is usually very oily. I really appreciate any feedback. 🖤

[Trigger Warning] Do you have tips for preventing and treating post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from roadrash?🤍

Hi everyone! Got my first proper road rash a few days ago, and now that the accident has mostly moved from immediate wound care to vanity.. I'm trying my best to avoid scarring and hyper-pigmentation on the shallower scrapes!

For anyone who has had PIH after road rash, burns, abrasions or just PIH more generally, what helped lower inflammation while the marks were still fresh, and what worked later once the skin had fully healed beyond UV protection?

Currently focusing on moist wound healing with Fitostimoline hydrogel, Vaseline and Tegaderm while the surface is still rebuilding.

I’m wondering whether topical hydrocortisone would make sense on these shallow scrapes to reduce inflammation early, as they're not open or bleeding, just very red and superficially abraded. I’m hesitant to use it too soon, though, in case it interferes with healing, so I’m considering waiting another day or two.

Silicone scar gels and tapes: My understanding is that they are mainly useful for texture/raised scarring rather than pigmentation, but I’m not sure how much they help with discolouration.

For treating PIH in my situation, would you lean towards hydroquinone, and if so at what percentage? Or would azelaic acid and tretinoin be better?

I’d really appreciate any advice from people who’ve dealt with PIH successfully. Trying to be careful without over-treating new skin

[Acne] Azelaic Acid has pretty much saved my skin

mid-30s male here who has had acne issues ever since puberty. My
acne was generally pustules or cystic. While not as severe as some, at
the worst, I'd probably have about 10-12 blemishes at the same time.
Most of the time though, I'd have maybe 1-3. The vast majority of it
would be around my mouth, chin, and jawline.

I think my acne issues have always been inflammatory and probably
genetic. My mothers side of the family has had acne well into their
40s-50s. Not severe acne, mind you, but would still get noticeable
blemishes well into adulthood. I thought I had tried everything; over
the counter, antibiotics, topical antibiotics, accutane... all things
that would help for a bit but never really help enough.

For whatever reason, my acne started getting worse a year ago. I
gave in, started seeing a new derm, and she prescribed Biacna + doxy.
Doxy did what it did... cleared up the skin as long as you're on it but
as soon as you stop, everything comes right back. The Biacna, which is
part tretinoin, didn't seemingly have an affect after several months.

It wasn't until I started noticing azelaic acid being mentioned on
reddit, that I kept looking into it and decided to give it a try. I
started noticing improvement within the week I started using it. My face
was no longer as red and the acne I had at the time started shrinking.
Don't get it twisted though. This was just the beginning. It didn't
solve all the problems immediately.

But I'm happy to say now that I'm around the 10-11 month mark of
daily use and my skin has been better than I remember in years. Instead
of getting 2-3 blemishes every several days... I now get maybe 1 a
month, if that.

Keep in mind, I use prescription grade 15% azelaic acid (Finacea
brand). It's funny because no dermatologist, including the one I
currently see, has ever recommended AA to me. It wasn't until I kept
reading about it that I decided to try it myself.

pretty simple routine

wash face with cold water in the morning (I dont use a cleanser)

after drying, apply thin layer of azelaic acid

apply vanicream daily moisturizer

then a facial sunscreen

at night, I just wash my face in the shower. Again, no cleanser.

Then I moisturize again before bed.

Technically, I still use the Biacna twice a week. But I have a
suspicion that it's causing the occasional blemish since it irritates my
skin if I use it more than twice per week.

[routine help] sudden breaking out from routine

i’ve been using the same routine since march, i was less focused on it for maybe a week or two in may and my skin is still mad at me for it. i’ve been getting more bumps and blackheads pop up, and waking up with a new pimple most days (which never used to happen!)and have started to get some scarring :( my current routine is:

mornings: cleanse with prequel gel, use vani cream vitamin c, byoma milky toner, creave light moisturizer gel, i was using versed daily spf but hated it and just switched today. (i also wait for each product to dry down, and if im wearing versed spf i dont wear the cereve gel)

night:

oil cleanse for 1 min, emulsify 1 min, prequel 1 min, and then just the cereve gel.

[Routine Help] Perioral dermatitis help

So my skin has been like this for a while now. I’ve been to my pcp and a dermatologist, both diagnosed me with perioral dermatitis. I have a genetic disposition to Rosacea. Not sure if I have a combo thing going on, or just perioral.

They both gave me doxycycline, with the derm giving me those pills, plus metronidazole and clindamycin gels. With the doxycycline and gels, my face did clear, but only for the month I was prescribed. After that, my skin went right back to how it is now.

With perioral I understand it’s usually caused by a trigger. The only new thing I had introduced before my face broke out was I switched shampoo types. My new shampoo had tea tree oil in it, and after getting my diagnoses I immediately figured this was the trigger, and changed my shampoo. There had been nothing else that was new in my daily routine. I figured after my regiment from the derm, and changing my shampoo it would help, but everything came back.

My lips always feel very dry and irritated. I also have very deep, tender bumps on the corners of my chin. I wake up in the morning with multiple whiteheads along my same chin, lip, and nose area. These areas feel very sore and dry.

I’ve tried salicylic acid face wash, Aseptic MD face wash, sulfur face wash, Harlan MD smart lotion, zero therapy, just water, nothing so far has worked. I’ve also tried going back to my old gels, didn’t have any results.

Currently I’m using my Eradikate sulfur wash at night, and just using water in the morning. Each time using gold bond face lotion to keep my face moisturized.

What can I try next? This is really wrecking my self confidence. Thanks in advance

[Routine Help] Oily Skin

Hi all! I have been trying to pin down a helpful skincare ringtone for a bit now. Originally I was focusing on general recs but now I’m thinking I should factor in how oily my skin is.

I can go through a blotting pad an hour some days. I get acne often. Overall, if there’s any way to have a skincare routine that helps reduce the shine and acne but keeps my skin healthy, I’m all ears.

Here is my current lineup—I would love some advice or tips. Truly anything helps as I am pretty ignorant to this sort of thing. Am I doing too much? Using the wrong stuff? Anything I should swap out?

AM:
CLEANSER: PanOxyl Acne Foaming wash, 10% Benzoyl Peroxide
TONER: Neutrogena Oil-Free acne Stress Control Triple Action Toner
SERUMS: Naturium Vitamin C serum; the Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
MOISTURIZER: Neutrogena Hydroboost gel
SPF: elta MD UV daily spf40

PM:
CLEANSER: PanOxyl Acne Foaming wash, 10% Benzoyl Peroxide
MOISTURIZER: Neutrogena Hydroboost gel

I used to use a retinol from The Ordinary brand in the PM, but didn’t love it, ran out, and haven’t gotten another yet. I’ve also heard other things besides retinol may be preferable like adapalene or tret

Thanks so much in advance!!

[Acne] Help with Diluted Pore?!

Diluted pore of winer?

Guys, how on earth do I get rid of this. It’s underneath my eye, and it just keeps refilling. Left is a photo of it filled, right is when I remove it and it looks worse.

I know the only way is getting it “punched” out by a professional. Am I correct? That’s the only answer I’ve read so far, and is there anyone who has had this done, does it leave a nasty scar?

Thanks!

[Product Request] Affordable Tinted Mineral Sunscreen

Hi everyone :) I'm looking for a mineral sunscreen available in the US that will work for oily, sensitive, acne prone skin that is not more than $10 per fluid ounce.

I have been using Australian Gold tinted mineral sunscreen for the past 9 months, and I thought it was my HG since it's affordable at $19 for 1.7 oz, my skin agrees with it, and I've never had a sunburn while wearing it. However, I started to notice more signs of premature aging and sun damage (forehead lines and freckles) after about 3 months using it. The sunscreen is SPF50, so I suspect the issue might be a low PA - given that the active ingredients are 4% titanium dioxide and 4% zinc oxide.

Other sunscreens I have enjoyed include the Avene compact tinted mineral and La Roche Posay light fluid mineral. These don't feel greasy, make me shiny, or cause breakouts for me. The problem is, they are not within my current budget at $44 for .3 oz and $40 for 1.7 oz.

I am open to tinted or non-tinted mineral sunscreens. My biggest concern is avoiding breakouts and feeling greasy. Thank you in advance!

[Review] Geek and Gorgeous Zero Feel SPF

If you have oily/combination skin or you’re looking for a daily sunscreen that doesn’t make your face shiny or leave a white cast, I think this might be the best one I’ve found!

UV Protection

G&G uses 4 UV filters: Uvinul A +, Tinosorb S, Uvinul T150, and Ensulizole. All of these filters are photostable, lower risk for eye stinging, and don’t have any systemic absorption safety concerns.

It’s rated as SPF 50 with a UVA rating of 30, comfortably exceeding the >16 minimum required for maximum protection against the wavelengths most commonly linked to skin aging. The Uvinul A+ filter also blocks ultra long-wave UVA rays in the 320-400nm range, with a peak performance at 354nm.

Water Resistance

Technically this SPF isn’t marketed as water resistant, but preliminary trials done by the company have found that it reaches threshold for Europe’s requirement for a water-resistant label, with 54% of the SPF protection being retained after exposure to water.

I think this is a good sweet spot for daily wear; it has enough durability to resist daily sweating but isn’t so robust that it’s heavy and hard to remove. I still wouldn’t trust this for the beach, pool, or heavy-duty sun exposure, but it can definitely handle summer days.

Texture/Feel

The name couldn’t be more accurate, you literally can’t feel this on your skin. It goes on like a very viscous lotion, not at all like a milk or fluid. It spreads somewhat easily but dries down into an invisible layer within seconds. My favorite part is that there’s zero shine or grease even with multiple applications. For a while I would avoid reapplying sunscreen because of the shine, but it really isn’t an issue with this SPF. There’s also no white cast at all!

In terms of its moisturizing ability, I feel it’s totally neutral. While it isn’t especially drying the way Anessa sun milk or others are, it’s also not at all moisturizing, so you’ll need to layer something below it unless you have very oily skin.

It does have a slight “sunscreen” smell on application that fades quickly but is still a bit noticeable at times. It’s not pungent or bad, but it’s there.

Cost/Ease of Use

It’s only ~$14 from the G&G website for a 75mL tube. If you use the recommended 1.2mL for the face once daily, one tube will last you about 2 months. Since I usually reapply once or twice a day, I find it comfortably lasts me a month, which is still really good considering the price!

Unlike some other sunscreens, there’s no pump, so it can be difficult to gauge how much you’re using. It might be a good idea to measure out 1/4 of a teaspoon at first to calibrate the right amount!

** Note for anyone in the U.S. : Because the FDA hasn’t approved all of these UV filters, G&G isn’t allowed to market this as an SPF in America. Instead, it’s sold as a “Mattifying Day Cream” on their website. However, I’ve confirmed by email with the company that this is the exact same product that is marketed as SPF in Europe.

Radiofrequency microneedling or Normal microneedling?

Hello, so I saw my dermatologist doctor and she suggested me to do radiofrequency microneedling for my listtle acne scars to make my skin smoother and I have done some research about it and people say it may make you age faster after RF microneedling. My derm said it can burn face fat and I said okay since I didn't know the consequences. I asked because I felt like ı have jowls. So, What do you think of RF MN? Should I do 3 sessions of radiofrequency microneedling as she suggested or should I do it at home with dermastamps etc...

[PRODUCT REQUEST] Nothing I’ve tried has faded my scars

I’ve struggled with what I think is keratosis pilaris (KP) on my legs for years. I used to get all these little bumps, and unfortunately I had a really bad habit of picking and scratching them. A lot of them also turned into ingrown hairs.

Now I’m left with a bunch of dark spots/scars all over my legs. I still get the bumps and ingrown hairs occasionally, so it’s been hard to stop the cycle completely.

I’m looking for recommendations from people who’ve actually dealt with this. What products or routines helped fade the scars and prevent new ones? I’m also scared to tan because I feel like every time I do, the dark spots become even more noticeable.

Has anyone successfully gotten their legs looking clear again? I’d appreciate any advice or product recommendations.

[Acne] What type of acne is this and how can I help my skin?

for the last 6 months or so I’ve had this sort of acne, before that my skin was relatively clear for the most part. I’ve been eating better and also have cut out a lot of sugar. I have a gluten allergy and also limit dairy. Right now I use a Vanicream cleanser, Dermasil oat meal toner, Skin Nutrition tea tree power serum, & cerave moisturizer. I started the routine after the acne appeared and have tried a couple different products but it feels like nothing is helping. I’m not sure if I need something specific for my skin type (also not sure what skin type or acne type I have). Thanks in advance !

[Sun Care] is it possible that i will get skin cancer after 6 - 8 hours of sun exposure?

Im so scared of skin cancer. For context i forgot to apply sunscreen on my shoulders and back part of my neck cause i didnt think i would go for a sleeveless tee until i sat down and started fishing. Plus i didnt expect it was that hot cause it was actually cloudy, was probably the uv index that caused me the burnn? Idk. Im from canada and im not white, im medium fair skinned.

i dont usually get sunburnt, last time i got some was prolly when i was 11. Will i get sunburnt? Up to now ive only seen small little bumps that look like white heads (but not fluid filled). Please help i dont mind the pain, i just dont want to get cancer and im not sure if this incident could get me cancer. Thanks.

[Routine Help] Seasonal combination + acne prone skin, need routine critique after unlearning harmful skincare myths.

24F, started trying to improve my skincare routine after years of 2x a day Noxzema + astringent, leaving me with a lot of acne scars and dry skin. I have very dry cheeks in the winter and a very oily t-zone in the summer, and I'm very pale, so looking to incorporate a light-weight sunscreen as well.

This is my current routine, 1 year in:

AM:

-Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Cream Cleanser (Salicylic Acid 2%)

-Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Moisturizer (Salicylic Acid 0.5%)

PM:

-I take a hot shower in the evening, don't put any soap on my face

-Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Moisturizer (Salicylic Acid 0.5%)

-Occasional Benzoyl Peroxide 10% spot treatment that I leave on overnight

This has helped with my acne a bit, but I still get clusters of small pimples on my forehead and chin, with larger pimples showing up on my cheeks, neck, & chest frequently. I have kind of a limited budget, but all recs are appreciated. Also, any recommendations for dark circles under the eyes as well?
