Volkswagen Atlas owners — how has your experience been? Reliability, fuel consumption, and common problems?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently considering a Volkswagen Atlas for my next family vehicle, and I’d like to hear from actual owners about your real-world experience.

I’m especially interested in the long-term reliability and the bad sides of ownership, not just the things you like about it.

For Atlas owners:

  • What year and trim do you have?
  • What is your actual fuel consumption in L/100 km for city and highway driving?
  • How has the engine and transmission reliability been?
  • Any oil consumption or oil-burning issues?
  • Any coolant leaks, water pump, electrical, infotainment, or sensor problems?
  • How expensive has regular maintenance been?
  • Any major repairs after the warranty expired?
  • How has it held up after 100,000 km or more?
  • Are parts and repairs noticeably more expensive compared with Toyota, Kia, Hyundai, etc.?
  • What do you dislike the most about your Atlas?
  • Would you buy another one?

I currently have a 2019 Kia Sedona with around 135,000 km, and I’m dealing with fairly heavy oil consumption, so reliability and avoiding another major engine/oil-consumption problem are very important to me.

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV owners — what’s your real-world fuel consumption?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently considering a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and would like to hear from actual owners about your experience, especially with fuel consumption and long-term ownership.

I’m in Canada, so I’m particularly interested in how it performs during colder weather and winter.

For current owners:

  • What year is your Outlander PHEV?
  • What fuel consumption are you actually getting in L/100 km?
  • How much better is it in city driving compared with highway driving?
  • How far can you normally drive on EV mode before the gas engine starts?
  • How much does the EV range drop during winter?
  • If you don't charge every day, is the fuel economy still good?
  • What fuel consumption do you get on longer highway trips when the battery is depleted?
  • How often do you normally fill up the gas tank?
  • Have you noticed any significant battery degradation over time?
  • Any expensive repairs or issues with the PHEV system?
  • What are the things you don't like about the Outlander PHEV?
  • Would you buy one again?

My main use would be regular city driving, commuting, errands with the kids, and some longer highway trips, so I’m trying to figure out what kind of fuel savings I could realistically expect rather than relying only on the official ratings.

Would appreciate any real-world numbers and experiences. Thanks!

2019 Kia Sedona – Heavy Oil Consumption. What was your solution?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for advice from other Kia Sedona owners who have experienced high oil consumption.

I have a 2019 Kia Sedona LX with around 135,000 km. Recently, I noticed that the engine seems to be consuming a lot of oil between oil changes. I’m not seeing any obvious oil leaks or oil spots where I park, and I haven’t had a red oil-pressure warning light come on.

For anyone who had the same issue:

  • How much oil was your Sedona consuming?
  • What was causing it?
  • Did Kia diagnose the problem?
  • Did you try a PCV valve replacement, engine cleaning, piston soak, or anything else?
  • Did any of those actually reduce the oil consumption?
  • Did Kia perform an oil-consumption test?
  • Did anyone eventually need piston rings or an engine replacement?
  • Was any of the repair covered by Kia, even outside the normal warranty?
  • What would you recommend I have checked first?

I’m planning to have the vehicle inspected, but I’d really like to hear from owners who have already gone through this and what solution actually worked for you.

Thanks in advance for any advice or experiences.

switching from van to grand highlander.

Hi everyone,

I’m currently considering getting a Toyota Highlander, and before I make a decision, I’d like to hear from actual owners, especially those who have owned theirs for several years or have higher mileage.

I already know Toyota has a good reputation for reliability, but I’m more interested in hearing about the bad side of owning a Highlander.

My current vehicle is a 2019 Kia Sedona with around 135,000 km, and I’m currently dealing with what seems to be pretty heavy oil consumption. That’s one of the main reasons I want to be very careful with my next vehicle.

For Highlander owners:

  • Have you experienced noticeable oil burning/oil consumption between oil changes?
  • At what mileage did it start?
  • Any engine, transmission, hybrid system, or AWD problems?
  • Expensive repairs after the warranty ended?
  • Any common problems you wish you knew about before buying?
  • How has it held up past 100,000–200,000 km?
  • Would you buy another Highlander?

I’m also interested in hearing from Highlander Hybrid owners, since that’s one of the versions I’m considering.

I’d really appreciate hearing both the good and especially the bad experiences. I’m trying to find something I can keep long-term without running into another major oil-consumption issue.

Thanks in advance.
