Water softener quote

I moved into a new home a few months ago and when we moved in everything looked spotless. Now that we’re settled in, we’re starting to see some buildup on the faucets, and our bathroom glass looks hazy.

My neighbor said it’s because of the hardness in the water, and referred me to a local company he used. I’m completely green in the space so looking for some guidance.

I don’t have a water test, but the company came out and did some testing. They said we have 11 grains hard, no iron, 3ppm chlorine and 2.5ppm chloramine.

Below was his quote:

4.5x20, 20 micron sediment
10x54, 48k, clack ws1, 10% cross link resin
10x54, 1.5cuft upflow catalytic carbon
Waterdrop 700gpd reverse osmosis

Total package: $3,400 including install and tax

Two questions:

  1. Is this system overkill?
  2. Is this a good quote?

I am in DFW area in Texas if that helps. TIA!
