You can condemn misandry without pretending that it has had the same historical or structural impact as misogyny

I'm not saying misandry doesn't exist or that it’s not an issue. Of course people can be prejudiced or hateful towards men. My point is that comparing misandry and misogyny as if they're the same thing ignores the history, scale and impact behind them. By saying they’re the same thing literally dismisses all the suffering women have gone through. That’s like saying “being racist towards white people is the same as being racist towards black people” by definition, yes it’s the same thing, but the history behind racism of black people and the history behind racism of white people are two very different things.
Individual instances of misandry can absolutely be harmful, but misogyny has historically been embedded in broader social, political, and economic systems that have restricted women’s rights, autonomy, safety, and opportunities on a much larger scale. So acknowledging that both forms of prejudice exist doesn’t mean they are equivalent in their origins, power, or consequences. You can condemn misandry without pretending that it has had the same historical or structural impact as misogyny.
edit: it seems that many of you have misunderstood me. in no way am i trying to dismiss the effects of misandry on society as a whole, it is also a very important issue. but saying it’s the same thing as misogyny is ignorant to history. misandry is definitely an issue and should not be ignored because “other people have it worse!” that is not what i’m saying.
