WIP Wednesday - Arcade Dating

Last week I had barely any time for booknooking, but this week I'm making up for it. I've spent a few hours each afternoon working on this steadily, and am really pleased with how it's coming together. I could carry on and get it finished this afternoon, but think I'm going to stop here and come back to it tomorrow, just to prolong the fun a bit more.

My Youngest Offspring asked a while ago for before and after pics of the edge painting and other details, so I've included here the flower from the box at the front. It's a simple change, but I far prefer it with the extra details.

It's here! Cats Crossing has landed 😁

Just have to share my excitement - it was delivered this afternoon and is now waiting for me to finish my current build. Super happy 😃

Three years and 8 nooks/5 miniature shops or rooms/one factory into this hobby, I can see that there are at least as many ways of displaying booknooks as there are builders.

I have most of my 'proper' books on bookshelves, surrounded by books; the exceptions are Tonecheer Spacetime Museum (too tall!), Rolife Garden House (don't want to hide the sides and block the open. window), and Dolphin Isle Starlight Reading Nook (too new and I want to be able to see the twinkling stars). At some point soon this last will be moved to a bookshelf though.

My not-nooks are either on bookshelves like nooks, if they're fully enclosed shops, on a shelf if they're open shops/rooms (Rolife Bakery and Sam's Study), or on a side table (coffee factory).

I want ideally to be able to match up some of my nooks with appropriate books next to them - so a Japanese-themed nook with my small collection of translated japanese literature; a wizard of oz/Alice themed one with children's classics; maybe a detective one with my cosy crime selection.

Has anyone done this? Does it work? How do you display yours?

After the simplicity of the literature bookshop, I decided it was time to get back to more detailed work, so turned to the Flower Corner. I know some people don't like the paperwork flowers and would prefer all the plants to be 3D, but I do rather like it. If I changed anything it would be the plants in the window display - but I don't have anything obviously suitable to hand and don't care enough to get more creative!

So far the build has gone very smoothly- up until this afternoon when I put the other side on, realised K would need to paint a visible edge which needs doing first, took it off and found that the piece which has the top light came with it, pulling the wires for that back through their hole. So I then had to carefully release the top bit of that other side, retrieve the wires and use tweezers to carefully pass them back down through the base of the nook, then reconstruct it all.

My only big question remaining is about the spindle above the shop door - it looks as though this is designed to be left totally blank, but I'm really not keen on that. However, my artistic skills are somewhat limited (to say the least!) and I don't have a printer. I'll need to make a decision very soon about what to do here... (At this point, buying a printer seems most likely, given the number of times i think it would be useful to have one!)

I am very pleased with the choices Ove made to add some bolder colours to bits of it nearer the front - the turquoise/blue and gold trims on the left, and purple on the right. Very minor compared to some of the wizards on here, but a big step for me! 😁
