What can my friend do?
I am posting this on a throwaway account on behalf of a friend who is facing a harassment situation.
For a while now, my friend has been receiving a constant stream of anonymous messages on Telegram. These messages heavily criticize their character and behavior, calling them a "shitty person."
The harasser is highly elusive; they use Telegram's secret chat feature or public chats, and they immediately delete their account after sending the messages, making them impossible to track or reply to. There is also no tele handle and no phone number to associate to the account, making it much more difficult to track anything?
My friend has already lodged a police report, but the police have stated they cannot take action, and the case has stalled due to a lack of identifiable leads.
What can my friend do at this point to protect themselves, trace the user, or escalate the matter legally? Any advice on Telegram privacy settings or legal recourse would be greatly appreciated.
