S9ii Possabilities
I was wondering the same as many of you. What if the new L10 is previewing what's coming with the S9ii? I think it could be a huge improvement to the camera's ergonomics and overall build quality. It would also give Lumix a chance to fix some of the things that felt missing from the original S9.
One thing I remember hearing was that the S9 lacked a mechanical shutter because there simply wasn't enough room inside the body. Supposedly they had to choose between IBIS and a mechanical shutter. If that's true, I think they made the right call. The IBIS on the S9 feels essential to what that camera is.
But that got me thinking. What if they still can't fit a mechanical shutter into an S9ii? If they used something like the partial stacked sensor from the S1ii, would that solve enough of the rolling shutter issues to make the lack of a mechanical shutter less important?
I'm also curious which route would actually cost more. Would adding a mechanical shutter to an S9ii be more expensive and difficult, or would it make more sense to reuse the S1ii sensor and skip the shutter entirely?
