I prefer poetic or clever lyrics, if there are lyrics. Some favorites are Sage Francis, Streetlight Manifesto, A Tribe Called Quest, Aesop Rock, Blackalicious, Atmosphere, Pat Scheeweis, Ani DiFranco, Alias (alone and with Tarsier), Ryo Fukui, Hilary Hahn, Joe Hisaishi... Tons more of course, but that's a wide variety to work with.

Tell me three things: A) On a 1-10 scale how much hip hop have you listened to (1 being very very little); B) In a scale of 1-10 how weird would you like your song C) Either a couple of your favorite artists of any genre, or tell me what you value in a song. Or preferably both.

I'll do my best to give you two songs that I think you'll like and which I don't think you've probably heard. Feel free to tell me anything else that would help me narrow my focus on what you like, especially how obscure you'd like the recommendation to be. For example, my image is of MN legend Atmosphere's first album Overcast! released in 1997, can't believe it's turning 30 next year, I would put that around a 4 of 10 maybe, because while Atmosphere is well known for an indie hip hop group, their first album less so. Headshots tapes or Dynospectrum or Deep Puddle Dynamics would be quite a bit higher.
