Do you know how fresh wounds give off that weird sweet smell?

I’m 16 days post op, had a bit of bleeding after not bleeding since first day. It was from my stools not being soft enough. I didn’t take stool softener for a few days.
I’m positive I have a uti but also when I wipe, it gave off that fresh wound smell from my vagina.

I’m scared an infection is gonna start. It didn’t smell like that when I wiped after bleeding yesterday, just like blood.

Should I be concerned? It hurts when I wipe. I’m scared of my organs coming out the cuff from a tear or prolapse. I have Ehlers Danlos syndrome too so my tissue is more fragile.

I noticed the smell now or else I would have mentioned it to the nurse on the phone when I called about bleeding earlier. Who said bleeding is normal.

Edit: I know the smell can also be the onset of an infection which is similar to what happened to me after the last surgery I had. And smells very similar too. I’m worried.

Body horror that is recovering from this surgery sometimes. Be prepared with these tools and tasks!!

I feel my organs(mainly my intestines) moving about internally on the top of my cuff and it’s weird as fuck. I don’t like it and become very aware that the cuff is the only thing preventing them from falling out onto the floor.

Nearly 2 weeks post op.
Loose fitting cotton boxers are a god send. They are basically the only type of underwear I own. I used those mesh underwear and some pads for the first few days but I didn’t have much bleeding so I stopped 4 days in.
You can ask the hospital for some when they send you home which is what I did. I kept some more of the mesh undies and pads because I hear a few weeks post op some people get random spotting.

You may experience bleaching of your underwear for a bit. Ruined a pair of mine 6dpo but haven’t had continued bleaching since. Learned this is from them killing off your vaginal flora to get a sterile field. This is why you are more likely to get uti, yeast infection or bv after surgery. The PH balance will be a little off.

Just wash with warm water thoroughly. Along with this ph and flora off balance it can cause a bit of a different or unpleasant smell. If it’s strong and foul smelling, go to your doctor. Small changes are normal otherwise.

Abdominal binder is great for healing and feeling secure. Got mine from the hospital too. Not all facilities have them and some of them they have are uncomfortable with the boning sticking out so if you have the option to, I’d buy a decent one from the store first instead of getting them in hospital.

DO NOT OVERDO IT. I thought id be okay this long into recovery without taking my pain meds for breakthrough pain. Omg no I’m not. Especially with having to go to doctors multiple times so soon after due to post op complications.

Continue with the spirometer they give you to keep your lungs healthy. If you have to cough or sneeze, sit on the edge of the bed with a pillow bracing your stomach. The more you use the spirometer the easier it’ll get.

Keep up with the Tylenol and stool softener plus laxative at least. Drink a lot of water too! The laxative and stool softeners work on drawing water to your colon. You don’t want to have to push too hard when trying to shit or you’ll pop a stitch or give yourself a hernia!
A grabbing tool, moving furniture like night stands and chairs closer to your bed, lots of pillows, a wedge pillow or adjustable bed.

Doing all this will help so much before your surgery.

Making extra servings of your favorite meals and freezing those portions individually before surgery is also a W tip.

I can’t take ibuprofen unfortunately due to some other health issues I have.

Be careful and listen to your doctor on limitations to masturbation, orgasms and insertion. Remember this is a huge major surgery which takes your body a year to fully recover itself. The only thing holding your organs inside is that cuff they make.

You don’t want to put yourself at more risk and reset your healing to square one. The recovery and pain is already hard and harsh. Please be careful.

Housework

I’m 9 dpo with surgical complications.
So I haven’t been getting help with the cat litter and the poor cat was pissing outside his litter box. I was begging all week. I cleaned it. I have a long handled scooper so I didn’t have to bend over.

Had to heavily plunge my toilet after from those post surgical shits too. It took a lot of force. How fucked am I??

In pain but not as much as I thought. Taking it easy now.

pH change after surgery?

I didn’t even expect or think of this of all other changes that come with hysterectomy. Had everything removed laparoscopically with robotic and vaginal assist. That was 6 days ago. My underwear is completely bleached from the ph change. I think i’ll need to start buying new underwear.

In pre op!!!

10 minutes til surgery!! Goodbye forever, problem organs!

Edit: lung collapsed. A more rare complication but possible. A few things can cause it like too much air or pressure, blocked airway or shallow breathing from pain.

Should I buy briefs, or diapers instead of the boxers I usually wear for healing?

I was thinking of either getting diapers or briefs for healing. I’m ftm. Diapers I’m a little hesitant because of breathability. I don’t have briefs since my periods stopped on testosterone. Maybe pads for the bed as a middle ground?

While I’m here, what hsa approved items from the pharmacy helped you during recovery?

Edit:
I settled on buying bed pads and asking for some mesh underwear from the hospital. I have regular menstrual pads already and an adjustable bed with a rail and hospital style adjustable rolling bed table. (I’m disabled and this helped me with my last surgery a lot.) I got a long reach grabber too.

Zebras, how long until you felt comfortable doing the do?

My surgery packet said 8 weeks til insertion which I know is on the earlier side of spectrum, I want to wait a little longer because of the slow healing I got from eds it takes me twice as long to heal on average. how long did yall take to feel comfortable and pain free??
