Can Slow Adult Palate Expansion + Invisalign Replace a $20k MARPE?
I’ve been researching adult palate expansion and I keep running into the same issue:
Everyone says real expansion requires MARPE/MSE or surgery, but once everything is included, the cost can easily hit $20k+ which is honestly out of my budget.
So I’m wondering if there’s a realistic middle ground.
My goals are:
• widen my smile
• improve arch form
• get meaningful expansion
• improve breathing/nasal airflow
• avoid major gaps/diastemas because of work
• avoid excessive tooth tipping if possible
The reason I care about the breathing side too is because the roof of the mouth is also the floor of the nose, so in theory expansion should directly affect nasal space and airflow to some degree.
The appliances I’m considering are from:
BracesShop
Mainly:
• Schwarz / 3 Way Schwarz
• Biobloc Stage 1
• Modified Expansion Plate
I’d combine one of them with Invisalign to help control the teeth during expansion.
What I’m also curious about is whether the appliance and Invisalign interfere with each other. For example:
• would parts of the aligners need to be shaved down or modified to fit around the appliance?
• does one product usually need to be altered to make room for the other?
• does Invisalign even work well during slow expansion?
I understand the limitations as an adult:
• my suture is more fused
• slower expansion is more dentoalveolar
• some tooth tipping is unavoidable without skeletal anchorage
But are people exaggerating how ineffective these appliances are for adults?
I’m not expecting MARPE level skeletal expansion. I’m just trying to figure out if slow expansion + Invisalign can still create noticeable widening and breathing improvements without spending $20k+.
Would really appreciate hearing from adults who did expansion and alignment simultaneously.
