Hey Jude (1968-1970 singles compilation).

Hey Jude (1968-1970 singles compilation).

What if Allen Klein's first cashgrab compilation album was better?

All songs from Past Masters, except for Come Together and Something from Abbey Road.

Side One:

  1. Lady Madonna.

  2. The Inner Light.

  3. Revolution.

  4. Get Back.

  5. Don't Let Me Down.

  6. Hey Jude.

Side Two:

  1. The Ballad of John and Yoko.

  2. Old Brown Shoe.

  3. Come Together.

  4. Something.

  5. Let It Be.

  6. You Know My Name (Look Up The Number).

I feel the real Hey Jude compilation album is a bit too diverse in its tracklisting. Can't Buy Me Love and Paperback Writer should not open a compilation which is otherwise late period Beatles. Instead, this compilation is purely of the singles from Lady Madonna to Let It Be. It is chronological, with the exception of Hey Jude placed after Don't Let Me Down because Hey Jude placed in the middle of a side would screw up the pacing of any record. The sides are roughly equal in length.

In a world where this album exists, I think it would be similarly canonical to Magical Mystery Tour; while five of the songs were on LPs already, they're all great songs.

I considered adding the US single The Long and Winding Road, early Lennon solo singles, a Ringo song, or songs like Hey Bulldog, but decided a double album would be a bit too long. Probably just like this post.

I don't use Spotify, so make a playlist for yourself and enjoy.
