Buying a $17,000 car in nj and it ended up being $22,000 after taxes and fees, is this right?

So I’m a resident of NC I travel for work and I am near NJ. I wanted to buy a Maserati which is posted at $16,999 and my bank (USAA) approved a loan.

I will register my car in NC but buy it from NJ. My bank will send a check directly to the dealership but the car rep told me after taxes and fees the car will be basically $4000+ more even though they have a state fixed rate of 6.625% which is only 1165.25. Can someone make it make sense am I missing something?
